Putin takes an iron grip on the Russias. So our war on communism is now biting us on the ass (courtesy of dubya's soul buddy, putin).
Do we have room on our plate for the war on terror, the war on drugs, the war on christmas, the war on glowarm, the war on poverty, the war on illegal immigrants, . . . ? Which gets the front burner?
Let's face it. Most of these so-called wars are about bureaucratic power. So maybe the question should be, "who will seize the front burner?"
The war on terror is very good for potus, dod, the intelligence establishment (oxymoron alert!), state, and various other entities who tell we have something to be afraid of but, for our own good, we cannot know what it is.
The war in iraq is very good for potus, dod, war profiteers (logisticians, as opposed to arms dealers), shifting factions throughout the middle east, al qaeda, and perhaps kurdistan (if they can just outlast our enslavement of them to leverage their oil reserves to keep the sunni and shia lined up until their new nation drops from the assembly line).
But the mother of all power rationales is the evil empire itself -- the red menace. This siren call beckons all of the above interested parties, except the middle east locals. So the guessing here is "how long before the next cold war starts, and all these other minor league power grabs go into the oubliette of fears past?"
