The poverty level for a single person in the USA is $10,210 per year. The present minimum wage is a ridiculous $5.85 per hour or $11,232 per year before taxes. Health insurance costs $5,711 annually per capita. That leaves $5,221 or $15.12 per day for all other living expenses. (rent, utilities, clothing, food, transportation, child care, alcohol and tobacco.) There are over 37 million people below poverty in the US.

Pays to be smart and work hard.
I did roofing before I joined the Army 20 years ago and made $10 an hour doing it (1988 when gas was less than a buck a gallon) now you cant get a job roofin for more than 5 bucks an hour. ALL THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS DROVE THE PRICES DOWN AND OCCUPY THOSE JOBS.
Want to end poverty? Close the borders, get an education, work hard, have honest money (non fiat money) and end our empire overseas. To easy. Next problem?
