I'm convinced there is a way for everyone on this site to pull together for a common cause. The Nolan Chart and quiz SEEMS to separate us and set us "at war" with each other, so to speak. But certainly we are all in this together and we are either all going to go down with a decaying culture and a failing government or we are all going to be lifted by a healthy vigorous culture and some kind of government which works.
I call upon everyone here to help indentify the core premises we have in common, upon which we can build. Please leave comments with your suggestions as to core political premises which we MIGHT all agree on. Even if we found only one such premise, I think we would all benefit.
I will start by suggesting a couple possibilities.
(1) None of us wants lawlessness. (I'm assuming we like society, friendships, people to interact with and join with. But we don't want people running around within our societywantonly killing, raping, acting fraudulently, etc. So we are willing to have in place at least some laws and some mechanism for encouraging lawful behavior.)
(2) None of us wants a dictatorial government which itself violates or condones the violation ofbasic lawsagainst killing, raping, acting fraudulently, etc. (I'm assuming we do not want to live under an egoistic dictatorship, and egoistic monarchy, or even under the egoistic majority rule.)
If you agree with one or both of these premises, or would suggest revisions, please comment. If you have other suggestions for basic political premises we might all agree to, please comment.
If we can find one or more starting premises, we can build together.
If we build it ... they will come.

How about this? We want our "servants" to adhere to their Oath of Office. This includes all "elected" officials, cabinet leaders, judges, and all the military. Period.

Thanks, Ivan. If indeed, everyone here agreed to having public servants, and to these public servants having an oath of office, and to the nature of such oaths ... then maybe everyone would agree to you.
One article, "The Spiritual Foundation of Liberty" ([link edited for length]), argues that legislators are unnecessary. So some here might not agree to the need for all the "public servants" we see today.
I think some oaths say something like "preserve and protect" the Constitution. There might be some here who think a Constitution is unnecessary, or if valuable then in need of revision.
There are values being threatened in our country that a majority share. We all want our children to have a the potential for accomplishment and simple human liberty and security. The polarizing arguments that keep us from acting together around these core values are breaking us down into smaller and smaller interest groups. Such arguments may have signifigance in times of security. Today they are futile, even irresponsible, possibly insane and certainly dangerous. When the ship is sinking you quit arguing about what to order for supper and you work together to save the women and children.
