The Muted Voice
The message of freedom and liberty, the call to return to the Constitution, the need for a noninterventionist foreign policy and a sound monetary policy These are but a few of the "unique ideals" that have been given voice recently. These are also but a few of the concepts that our country has been quietly and systematically lead to believe are antiquated or not possible in today's day and age. These are the things that we are told we must give up to protect and defend ourselves. Yet, they are still the things in the back of all of our minds that make America great. They are still the backbone of the Constitution.
Today, our children are being raised in a fog of fear and coddled in a blanket of apathy. How has this occurred before our very eyes? What would our founding fathers say? What would our grandparents, who lived through the depression and fought in World War II say? I'm guessing that they would be flat out, fighting mad!
Enter Ron Paul
Seldom in our history have so many rallied behind an individual in such an extraordinary way, in spite of the overwhelming efforts to minimize that individual's message. I am not here to expound on any of those ideals. We all know what they are and we do our best each day to continue to spread the word and encourage others to get involved. But in the coming weeks and months, that voice must be louder than ever. Dr. Paul has stated that as long as people are calling on him, he will continue. As long as people are donating to the campaign, he will continue.
It's plain and simple
We must continue to grow in all ways. Our individual voices must be louder. Our articles, email messages, blogs, rallies, and phone calls must continue. These are all things that we can do on a grass roots level. But, there is also money needed to do the things that are in the control of the official campaign. The "frontrunners" in this election cycle, as always, have the funnel of money that comes from the special interest groups that are always ready to purchase their favors. However, it seems that none of them are lining up to throw any money at Dr. Paul.
Overwhelming odds require overwhelming efforts
I have given to the Ron Paul 2008 campaign and I'm sure many of you have, as well. Well, guess what? We have to continue giving. We have to encourage others to give. If we don't give until it hurts now it will hurt much worse later. If things continue the way they are, our economy will worsen, our liberties will be taken and our way of life changed for certain. We need a voice of reason in the White House. The time has come for an individual to lead our country that does not do the bidding of special interests, but leads based on the will of the people and the laws of the Constitution.
Dr. Paul has come farther than he or anyone else could have imagined, yet he is not done. He will not be done until we give up. Our surrender will be signaled by diminishing support and muted voices. Will we let the mainstream media silence us through ignoring us? Will we allow ourselves to be ignored? Will we continue to speak and pass on the message that Dr. Paul has been delivering despite the overwhelming odds?
"If it's impossible, you just have to work a little harder!"
It's going to take a little more from everyone. More time, more effort, more money
If you have given to the Ron Paul campaign, you are to be congratulated and thanked. If you have not, then it's time, as the old saying goes. to put your money where your mouth is. So donate now for the first time or donate again. In either case, you can do that by going to the secure server right on the official campaign website at www.RonPaul2008.com
It's up to us as a nation
We can sit back and see what happens and live with the results. Or, we can rise up in a unified voice and let our government know that enough is enough. We won't take business as usual anymore. We demand to return to the basis of our country. It is time to strip the power of special interests from the halls of Congress. It's time to stop ignoring the laws of our land and proceeding with illegal wars. It is time for real change. Not the rhetorical change we hear about in the mainstream media, as they report on the "frontrunners" or the change that comes about by a corrupt administration preying on the manufactured fear in favor of the people behind the curtain. It's time for the change that can come about in a Ron Paul administration.

RP has failed to communicate not only to the uncommitted but to the choir as well.
His message is simply misunderstood and written off by those who refuse to research on their own or who aren't intrinsically receptive to it.
His letter based on the his choice of words preceeding the weekend of the WA caucus left supporters with the impression that he had quit. Subsequent communications have been equally ambiguious.
A new candidate who can carry the message effectively would be more successful IMHO.
It's the people who don't want to hear the message that need a compelling reason to listen. Paul and by extension his campaign have not successfully navigated that territory.
The only reason Obama is still in the race is his superiority on the stump. Very little difference in his message and Hilary's.
Why does one salesman flourish and the other flounder when selling the exact same product? How does a new product find consumers and replace the old product?
Believe me, it's the messenger. Time and time again I've debated with people over the legitimacy of Ron Paul. His policies, they all agree, are sound. They may not agree with his platform as a whole, but everybody has admitted he's got a fleshed out plan. Still, people don't like the way he talks, people don't like the fact that he's a septagenerian, people don't like the fact that he once ran as a libertarian, and i've even heard complaint's that he just doesn't LOOK presidential.
I know it's hard to swallow, but we supporters of his message should be looking for a new outlet, soon.

As spring and summer roll in and our inevitable financial (dollar) fiasco unrolls, looking presidential will be less and less important. The neocons and fascists in charge now will not be able to cover the situation with lies "don't worry, be happy". RP is the only one with an unsullied track record of voting for "we the people". More importantly, RP will be seen as the only one with a real plan to secure the oldsters Social Security and medical care.
Take a look at my "fat lady" article for the link to RP's 1984 speech to Congress regarding all the stuff that's wrong with Congress.
It's the package people aren't buying not what's in it.
Some insincere an opportunistic politician is more likely to sink "it's" hooks into Paul's ideas and bastardize them for their own selfish advantage. Like Huckleberry for instance.
We should pick and solicit our own trusted candidate before the whole movement is co-opted by the NASCAR/Religious right.
There are certain people on the boards who are supposedly for Ron Paul, but continue to downplay him at every opportunity. Ron Paul is not the wrong messenger, because he lives by what he says. Actions speak louder than words. Ron Paul is not an in your face person so get over it. Grassroots is people, Ron Paul was in every debate, yet no time to speak, he is still in the race but major newspapers continue to avoid mentioning him, such as the New York Times, I picked up their paper this morning. You can't fight that with a fancy suit.
gorepublican ~ Paul himself has said he is reluctant to run. He doesn't really want to be president and who could blame him. Frankly as much as I personally admire and respect Dr. Ron Paul the person, I'm not interested in martyring the cause for him. The cause is what motivates me. Most specifically bringing sanity to our foreign policy and trade agreements. There is nothing negative abaout suggesting a new strategy in advancing that cause. This is not about Ron Paul the man. This is about the ball that he got rolling and us keeping it rolling. Idol worship has no place here. If he can't get the ball over the goal line then we have to find someone who can. I would be surprised if he objected to that assessment. I'm under the impression that what matters to him is the actual implementation of the policies. Not who gets the credit for them. If everyone is ignoring him lets find someone new who they will pay attention to ~ they can be wearing a fancy suit or be covered in marzipan for all I care. Let's just get the focus back on to the solutions proffered by our current candidate before it's too late and the real grass roots crawl back into their holes of apathy, disillusion and defeat.

It is the message that is important, not the man. RP would agree with that. He is not looking for credit. He's looking for change. The problem is that there is no other messenger right now. This isn't a football game that we can send in a new quarterback in the last quarter. Looking to the future for a new messenger is only practical, but if we give up on this messenger, right now, then the message will be squashed in the fervor of the rhetoric.
Right now, the message needs to be continually spoken as loudly as possible, as long as possible, in the context of this presidential election. Neither of the two "frontrunners" (I laughed as I typed "frontrunners”… then I cried) has a clue or more importantly, they are just pawns of the people behind the curtain. Neither is the right person to lead the Republican party into the fall... much less lead our nation for four years.
Let's keep spreading the word, educating others, and investing more into the existing man with the plan. He's the one taking the abuse out there... being marginalized, ignored, laughed at and questioned as to his sanity. The least we can do is support him as he continues to try and change for the better, the world we leave our children, grandchildren and the children that follow them. In my opinion, the implications of this election run that deep.
After November, it will be natural to search for the bright young star with a dynamic presence to carry the message forward. It's just not time to stop supporting and start looking yet.
David I respect and appreciate your article as well as your comments here and the sentiment it all conveys. I know I must sound insensitive and ungrateful. For that I apologize. My very real concern is that this election is most likely our absolute last chance.

Ok, Jim. We agree then. But, who do you propose WE slide into the election that has over 30 years of continually stating the same message and standing tall for liberty and freedom? Where is the support going to come from? How does that process take place in the time between now and November? What do you propose?
I went and read Ivan's "fat lady" article. It was really good, Ivan. I'm with you. More importantly, I went to the link in the article with the text of the speech RP gave to Congress as he was departing in 1984. Three quarters of the way through, I had to remind myself that he was delivering this speech 20+ years ago. Many of his collegues from that time are dead and gone. He's still sending the same message. His forsight and fortitude were amazing, in hindsight.
You are right, Jim. We have ONE chance. One chance to get this guy elected and we'll have a tough time replacing him in the future. We need to stand behind him now. America needs Ron Paul and his message. Bring in the new guy later. Hopefully, there will be someone to pick up the ball and run after RP is gone. For now, please quit discounting him and get behind him all the more.
This nomination process and election cycle is not over... still has plenty of time for McCain to step on his d**k and for Huckleberry to be discovered for the fraud he is. OK, McCain is a fraud, too. You certainly don't want this guy in charge while we're in the economic mess we are today.
I think we all agreee that the message is the real issue. Anyone that has not read the 1984 speech should... for your own benefit. It will certainly reinforce your belief in Ron Paul. And yes, Ivan, it should be required reading. At least for all men and women in Congress today.
