Boston Tea Party, Not Veteran's Day, Likely To Be Next Ron Paul Haul

Today's Veteran's Day mass donation to the Ron Paul campaign isn't likely to make nearly as much of a splash as the 5th of November $4.2 million haul with only 2,000 on board.

The same people who brought you Ron Paul's $4.2 million haul six days ago are at it again today, trying to raise money on Veteran's Day. They're not likely to do as well, given that less than 1/9 of the original total have pledged to give, but it should still give the campaign a Howard Dean size boost.

They have something even bigger on the horizon, however. In 35 days, they're going to brew some tea and have a tea party. In celebration of the 234th anniversay of the Boston Tea Party, donors are lining up once again to make a big fundraising splash. Once again, the goal is 100,000 donors each giving $100 for a total of $10,000,000 in one-day donations. Once again, the campaign is off to a rousing start. With 35 days to go, they already have nearly 4,400 donors signed up, ready to participate as of early in the day on November 11th.

It remains to be seen whether they will be able to garner the 1,000 committed donors per day that the 5th of November drive acquired, but if they do, it will mean another massive cash drop into the Paul campaign coffers. That would probably give them close to $5 million in one day and would push the Paul campaign well past their 4th quarter goal of $12 million. It also means that we will be able to expect a lot more big drive days during the first month of 2008.

There's no further word at this point in time whether the Paul campaign plans to use any of this booty toward an infomercial, which was proposed here and has been picked up by Paul supporters all around the 'net. The added funds would certainly make an infomercial-approach more appetizing from a financial point of view. Regardless of whether they choose that option, the remaining question is what the campaign plans are for getting votes in the primaries, and whether or not those votes will be forthcoming. Fundraising is all well and good when it is successful, but ultimately it doesn't make a dime's worth of difference if it doesn't turn into votes. Just ask Howard Dean.

The money bomb today should send the total over $8 million though, which is what the campaign originally had hoped would happen around the end of November. So it will have that nice psychological impact and make for a nice end to the week.

Quite possible that Paul could reach the $12 million goal by the end of this month. Then you're looking at general donations and the holidays where people are going to give more, and then the Tea Party Money Bomb. Paul could easily have $20-$25 million at end of 4Q.

It was to be expected that the November 11th money bomb wouldn't do aswell since it's just one week after the November 5th money bomb. But still, today's money bomb should produce an interesting amount of money.

Good one, Walt. What I love is that corporate media can not ignore him, no matter how much is raised today or on Dec. 16. Of course we can expect the typical "but, they didn't raise nearly as much as they..." as if to imply that expectations were as high as they were last week --- anything to portray a loss of momentum. Then again, that sort of "coverage" seems to have only strengthened our resolve. So bring it on, MSM!
