Ron Paul Expected To Raise Nearly $2 Million In One Day

5th of November drive falling short of highest expectations, but will produce excellent results nonetheless.

Today is the day. Yet another example of spontaneous organization at the grassroots level is giving a big boost to the Ron Paul campaign. According to the website thisNovember5th.com, 18,000 people have committed to giving the Paul campaign at least $100 today. While well short of the 100,000 the effort had originally hoped for, if all pledgers give as promised today the campaign should see a boost of at least $1.8 million to the campaign chest.

Beyond the obvious boost in fiscal capacity, the effort shows how significant the support has been from the Internet-driven Paulites. The official campaign itself has been able to continue getting Dr. Paul around the country to talk with large groups of mostly young people who have been flocking to his events, while the grassroots organizers took it upon themselves to conceive of the fundraising idea, execute, publicize, and complete it. That's impressive.

The concept, of course, comes from the movie V For Vendetta, a Natalie Portman film from 2005 about a modern-day intellectual heir of Guy Fawkes (who attempted to blow up Parliament in the early 17th Century) who uses a Fawkes disguise and some slick machinations to stimulate a revolt among the British people. The movie has a following here in the U.S. and inspired Paul supporters to invent this novel approach to fundraising.

We won't know until the end of the day how successful it has been, but I can assure you that we here at the Nolan Chart will be watching.

Thank you so much for reporting on this! Hopefully we will start to see many stories today about the success Ron Paul has been experiencing. I have already given my $100 dollars. I would love to give more, but I'm just a poor college student. I want to encourage anyone who hasn't donated yet to do so for yourselves and for those who cannot donate more.

Ron Paul hit one million in a little over eight hours; and those eight hours in the wee of the night.

Who knows: we may top three!

I did not sign up on the thisnovember5th.com site but will be donating today.  I encourage anyone who wants to take our country back from the neo-cons and do nothing democrats to donate today also.

I am a republican and am 100% disgusted with our current administration and supposed republican choices for president.  Ron Paul is the only honest man with real plans to turn this country around.

Will it be easy? NO!  Will we all have to pull together and work to make these ideas a reality? YES!  First step, donate so Ron Paul can get his name out there and win the nomination.

Won't you take that first step today?  Please join us at www.ronpaul2008.com to make the American dream a reality!

Ron is the cure for political apathy. I believe he can win if he is taken seriously by the media. This campaign and another like it in December will be just the thing to encourage those who contine to discount him.

Over 2.2 million in 14 hours is newsworthy in, and of itself, no matter the party or candidate. How much do you think will get into major media about this?

I would like to suggest that each of us, and other supporters, take a few minutes to email so called major media to insist that this amazing event in support of Ron Paul be covered, and not marginalized. No matter who the candidate might be, such an event is newsworthy, period.

Tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on, and so on.....

Here's a handy dandy list to help make it happen.

We are up to 3 million and counting!   You can donate more than once... hint hint...

Also, purchasing materials counts as donations, so if you need any signs or slim jims or those new hats, today is a good day to buy them.  Why not buy 500 slim jims and hit your neighborhood with them?  Or buy some of the new Pro-life slim jims and hit your local church with them?  Bring some of the  new medical slim jims to your doctor's office!

This is an amazing day - really!
