Lou Dobbs' Independent Voice Fails Listeners Several months back, having been fully awakened to the terrible reality that is Fox Cable News, I started surfing and came across Lou Dobbs on CNN. His show was interesting because he seemed to really talk straight about critical issues and his question, “Doesn’t anyone deserve a government that works anymore?” had my attention. Yet, the more I watch the more he fails to recognize or admit real problems and real solutions.by Gary Wood

Ω If you've ever watched Lou Dobbs you can usually gain some interesting insights into stories other political pundits either skip over or report on a surface basis. His book, Independents Day: Awakening the National Spirit, boldly attempts to raise critical issues in a manner most of us can ingest with understanding. CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight is a show that focuses on the idea of government failures, party politics' follies, and the need for people to break free by registering as Independents. All this is a positive message yet the longer I've tuned in the more I realize there are many aspects in which Mr. Dobbs fails his listeners. Many times when I've heard him fail in one respect or another on a particular report or issue I've sent a message to him. The instances of failure now have reached a consistent enough level I present some of my findings here for those who read this article to decide.
His passion for voters to register Independent is something I believe is good for the country. Even as the number of Independent registration rises, however, he still seems to solicit a need to select candidates from a major party. Also, he seems to have no problem with the usurped control of the U.S. Congress by major parties through unconstitutional organizational positions such as the Majority and Minority Leadership positions. He estimates 35 to 40% of all voters are now registered Independent. Add to that the roughly 10% registered in some third-party and we find the Democrat and Republican Parties have less overall registrations than Independents. Why there is no movement or mention of ending the Congressional stranglehold I don't know. Also, why he dedicates so much coverage to the primaries of the two parties instead of being the leading voice against coverage of their primaries unless Independent candidates and third-party candidates are also allowed to be involved during the media and party dog and pony show is beyond me. It seems his is the one show that not only could but should be focusing on ending the control of the two major parties yet instead he plays their game by their rules.
When it comes to the economic crisis Mr. Dobbs has related to his listeners one key problem is the "unfettered" nature of companies being allowed to operate without strong regulatory oversight. However, the mortgage industry is one that is highly regulated by the Federal government. Many are Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs). Fannie Mae was actually started as a government agency while Freddie Mac also is heavily regulated by HUD. To listen to Mr. Dobbs a person can easily believe the problem is free capitalism. It is not, the problem is the entrenched corporatocracy allowed to operate under Federal guidelines while the private Federal Reserve Bank is allowed to play with key economic elements creating boom and bust fluctuations and rampant inflationary movements. The bank's chairman is a position nominated by the President and approved by Congress. This is hardly free capitalism operating unfettered, its major corporations working with government to control the people.
When it comes to one of his most passionate subjects, illegal immigration, he points to facts about 1562 State Laws being introduced and 244 being enacted. He does talk about the success at the state level compared to the failures at the federal level. Why not then call for an end to federal control of the borders, they are not good at it. Isn't this an example of how our Federal Republic was supposed to work? States and their governors should be allowed to lead this fight. The federal government should not be allowed to take funds from the states for this effort. Leave the money at the state level and let those who can really protect our borders and enact laws do it. Allowing states and people more power than the federal government is not a bad precedent. As an Independent voice quit calling for the federal levels to do their job and start calling for them to relinquish control to the states, it works better that way.
The crumbling infrastructure is another area which the federal government has proven unable to manage. Dobbs continually points to the failures yet does not call for the federal mishandling to cease in favor of states working together to responsibly care for bridges, roads, utilities and more. Funds again are sucked from the states to fund ineffective federal bureaucracies and then those very bureaucracies are allowed to hold state monies as some reward and punishment for doing as the federal government commands. His voice should be leading his listeners to this conclusion and calling on them to support their state and local communities by demanding an end to strict federal oversight that does not work.
Teaching and public schools are in the same situation. The DEA and national teacher's unions and lobby groups choke the ability of local communities to control their public schools. The decline in quality shows this federal interference does not work. Mr. Dobbs should be leading the charge to end the DEA and breaking the strong arm tactics of unions and lobby groups. Again, money being taken by the federal government to fund their wasteful, ineffective organizations should be left within each state. Allow school boards to work within their cities, counties, and states to solve the education crisis, it works better that way.
There were many reasons the unprecedented experiment created to form the United States limited significantly the role of the federal level of government. Above are just a few examples of how poor the Washington D.C. bureaucracy and the two major political parties are at managing the monies and needs of the people from the federal level. I have a great deal of respect for what Lou Dobbs is trying to do in encouraging Independent registration as well as awakening the citizens to critically think about what is going on. Being one of his listeners shows me daily the gaps in his presentation. Still clinging too tightly to Republican and Democratic programs and federal control, he comes up short. There are times I think he's about to turn the corner and use his respected program to begin to really help restore the country. Each time he slips into rhetoric that fails the listeners. Perhaps one day he will completely embrace the real Constitutional approach to governing and become the leader for restoring this nation he seems so close to being. There is no doubt he is a patriotic protector of the people's interests. I am a listener who can't wait for him to take it to the next logical progression.

Yes. I agree with you about Lou. He once made the statement that "none of these candidates are even mentioning the economy!" the way that he does, suggesting he knows and they don't...
I emailed him and said "Uhh, Lou. Ron Paul has been mentioning the economy for months..."
Lou is truly just another sideshow to distract the populace and make them think they are thinking.
Yes Scott, he does that quite often. Just like when he said all candidates should listen close, the first one to actually accept the fact it was time to bring our troops home from Europe would have an inside track to the White House. Seems Ron Paul has mentioned that a time or two...
I have seen this as well but you have to remember that Lou Dobbs is an employee of CNN. He may have his own show but it's still owned by CNN and it's pretty well obvious that they are not allowed to mention Ron Paul's name in a positive light without fear of termination. There are rumors going around that the resignation of Tucker Carlson and Pat Buchanan have been called for because they advocated for Ron Paul's candidacy.
I wish someone like Lou Dobbs would run for president. McAmnesty and the demoncrat fools are unacceptable. We need an angry white man to take this country back to the 1950's! (Ron Paul comes off as a nut.)
