I've explained in past articles how McCain's elevation to "shoe-in" status for the GOP nomination foreshadows the death of the Republican party, and that he is inherently unelectable.
Being the good soldier that he is, I think he should follow the admirable actions of Mitt Romney and "take one for the cause."
"I entered this race because I love America. And because I love America, in this time of war, I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country."
John McCain, do you love America? Show us all that you can be "as big" as Mitt Romney. Step aside and make room for a real conservative, Dr. Ron Paul.

I agree that Ron Paul would be best for America, but your grasp on human nature is tenuous. Why in the world would McCain step aside when he is ahead? He thinks he's right and he's backed by many in the power elite. I never would have thought he would be in the position he's in today - awhile ago he was dead broke. So, how can anyone say with 100% certainty that he won't win the election? Did you predict the American public to be so stupid as to re-elect GW? Anything can happen between now and then. If it was so clear that Ron Paul could beat the Democrats, then where is the evidence to support such a claim? At this point R. Paul's only chance is to split the vote by appealing to the peaceniks and more conservative elements and pushing the message until November. I don't see the will, though. Do you?
Mccain should step down regardless of his lead because he can not beat any democratic opponent. He is the exact president we'ves had for 8, 12, 16, 50 years.
Spend recklessly, wage 'war' (read: conflict) carelessly, and restrict freedom of all people who are owed it. The only place we should be fighting is at home for freedom from an overgrown overspent government.
This country can only be saved by a fiscal conservative who follows the constitution and returns the freedom and responsibility to the people. Also, a candidate who is pro liberty and fiscally responsible has the best chance of winning in any general election.
John Mccain, please step down.
McCain us unelectable. The PTB (Powers That Be) know this. He is being set up to lose in November. The Republican/Democrat thing is a false paradigm set up by the elite controllers of this country to divide us, keep us bickering with each other, and make us think we have a choice and that something will change if we can only elect the other ("good") guys next time. I say bullsh*t!!!
Are we Americans, or are we Republicans and Democrats? Until very recently, I considered myself a "liberal Democrat." I now consider myself an American, and I will vote for the best man for the job, regardless of party label. My vote in November will be for Ron Paul. If he is not the Republican nominee, I pray he will run 3rd party or Independent. If he is not on the ballot, I will write him in.
Please realize that this is all a big staged show, and they are playing us for fools. Some say if Ron Paul runs 3rd party, he would cost the GOP the election and they would blame him for the loss. They are going to lose anyway, whether Paul is on the ballot or not, unless he is the R nominee. Besides, if McCain (who Pat Buchanan just said would "make Cheney look like Ghandi") wins, we will be even worse off than if the Dems win.Â
Who cares whom the GOP blames for its lack of foresight in nominating a horrible candidate to represent it, if that is indeed what happens? If the Republicans wanted to win, they would nominate the people's choice, Ron Paul, or they would have at least made it fair so RP would have had a chance.
This is no game. Everything is at stake this time.

Once they gradp the evidence, either or both of Paul & Huckabee could offer him the chance to withdraw before September.
