Who is Rand Paul? Could Rand Paul be the Second Front we need to win this Election?by EJ Moosa

On a Saturday morning before Super Tuesday, I made the trip to the Georgia State capital to hear a slate of speakers promoting Ron Paul's 2008 Campaign. The speakers included Ike Hall, Martha Mellon, Mark Augustin, and Rand Paul among others. I expect some pretty big things in the future from all four that I have mentioned. Rand Paul's message had some of us asking each other if he could carry the message forward after 2008. After thinking about it, I do not think we should wait to find out the answer.
Who is Rand Paul? The son of Ron Paul, he is also a doctor. Google Rand Paul for yourself and read up on him.
I would like to propose an idea that may seem a bit far-fetched, if not historic in nature. I would like to see Rand Paul run for President at the same time as his father is seeking the Republican nomination.
Rand Paul is an excellent speaker. Rand Paul supports the platform of his father. The support structure is in place across the country today to make this happen. The candidate we want to win the election is a candidate of principles, and since they are similar, we do not have to be so concerned about the candidate's first name. For those of us that have maxed out our contributions to Ron Paul, we could begin again with Rand Paul. McCain-Feingold be damned.
Ron Paul can then stay in the Republican Party, win his Congressional seat, and speak at the National Convention. The Republican Party can continue on it's course of self-destruction, and Rand Paul could be there to pick up the pieces.
Imagine if you will how valuable it would be to keep the Paul name out there through the end of this election cycle. On signs and billboards. We would truly be giving America a choice in November. After the Republican National Convention, Ron Paul could then be free to join his son to promote Freedom's Last Stand.
I have not spoken to Rand Paul about this nor do I know what his aspirations are. Perhaps this is one of those times where We the People should ask him to step up on behalf of this country.

Running for congress as an an Republican and running for white house as an independent ( or as Libeteterian) will not be a good idea for Ron Paul. He will loss his credibility. Ron paul already have huge grass root support and same people will again campaign for Rand paul. He is young and has much needed energy to run for president as an independent. We might succeed because our number never decerease, it will increase because all anti Mccain and Clinton ( Obama's supporter, Gravel's supporter, Dennis' supporter even Romney's and Huckabee's suppoter ) might join us later.
Rand Paul is , like his father, a fine man and his time will come, but during this election cycle, and this late in the game, I fear that dilution of resources and division of support would be catastrophic. The mantle awaits him, but now is his father's time.
Damn, I was afraid of that. I wonder if he simply gave up, took advice from friends, or was told by those in power that he would get some of his money refunded by "supporting his party."
McCain will take the rest of the states, Huckabee will persevere trying to buy a VP slot, and they will totally pretend RP doesn't exist. He won't get a chance to speak at the convention now. : ( The status quo has won....
Ton You make a good point about running simultaneous campaigns (congressional/presidential) with different party
affiliations (Republican/Independent respectively). But Ron should
only run for a congressional seat if he doesn't think he can win an
independent run for president.
I would much rather Dr. Paul
win the Republican nomination. I am not saying he can or he cannot
win the nod because I do not know. I know the probabilities are falling
put almost anything is possible. I would rather him fore go his
congressional seat and run for president as an independent. But that
is his choice to make.
I want more choices then just McCain/Clinton or McCain/Obama and Huckabee is an even worse choice then McCain.
Go Pauls! America please pull the wool out of your eyes. Our Country can't afford the spending these other candidates plan for. We need to get our troops home and secure our own Country for a change.
The troops support Ron Paul more then EVERY OTHER CANDIDATE COMBINED from a recent FEC article.
A vote against Ron Paul is a vote against our troops

Great idea, but we have to think about the overall good of the country right now.
On one hand we need to send a message to the GOP that they are severely hurting the party by their antics. I personally feel the party should be punished and we should all leave enmass to prove the point.
However, we need Dr. Paul to stay in Congress. If he makes a LIBERTARIAN run he may loose his congressional seat which leaves us with no advocate for freedom.
The deal is this, we need to take over congress in 2010. Even if by some strange happening the good Dr. wins the nomination, he will have a hard time turning the country around without our help in Congress. Get off your buts and find out about the seat in your district. Start now. The revolution took decades to finally blow and another 11 years to make the constitution. We cant do this over night or even over 9 months. Please go register to run for office, either as a REPUBLICan or a LIBERTARIAN. Swell our numbers than it is no longer 534 against one. Lets use our grassroots organization, strengthen it and make it 335 against 200.
LIBERTY or DEATH
Or how about this. Would it be possible for Rand Paul to switch with Ron Paul in running for the Republican nomination? I just watched him on YouTube in a speech to the Montana Republican party. He was able to clearly and convincingly explain his father's positions in a much more logical and understandable fashion. At the very least, they should use him to speak at as many GOP district and conventions as possible before the national convention. With Republicans not wanting to support McCain, I think Rand Paul's lucid and attractive style could persuade a lot of former Romney, undecided and, even Huckabee, supporters to switch to his dad. We got to remember, the news organizations are showing McCain with a lot of delegates who were won in states with caucuses. Here in Minnesota, Ron Paul got way more delegates than the straw poll would lead one to believe. I'm sure this is the pattern across the country as well. McCain voters are not sticking around to run for delegates in the caucuses in the primary states, either.
The LP nomination process has already begun, I think. Wayne Root - who describes himself as the young Ron Paul - is one of the contenders (he is pro-choice though). I do not think it would be a good idea for Rand Paul to run for LP or CP or another party. It is better that an established one that Bob Barr, who introduced Paul to CPAC and is a long term friend, runs for the LP nomination.
Chad, I do not think it is over yet, for various reasons. Many conservative (also ex Ron Paul movement) are not happy at will with McCain (or Huckabee for that matter), who is like a Democrat. The GOP should know if they nominate McCain, they WILL loose for certain, and loose badly. In short: there could still be a willing brokered convention, even if it cannot be forces. If Paul/Huckabee get 51% plus of the remaining 21 states, there will be a forced brokered convention in any case. Paul should beat Huckabee in at least one state today, at best and get momentum.
The idea with Rand Paul involved is good. In case Ron Paul does not get the presidency, perhaps it is a possibility that Rand Paul take over his father's district and Ron Paul move some time to become a governor or senator? Or Rand Paul can get a congress seat in his home state of Kentucky?
If McCain is nominated, he has to give up his senate seat? (regardless of the outcome of the election?). The Democratic governor should appoint a Republican for that seat. Hopefully we can get a Ron paul GOP as senator appointed?
Shannon: yes, one could add that the media reported that in NH and elsewhere, McCain received - ironically - the anti-war GOP vote. According to statistic 1/3 of GOP are against the war. Thus at the RNC, Paul should ensure that these people are persuaded that he is the princ eof peace and king of reason, while McCain is a warmonger. This could tip the whole vote in favor of Paul!
Also: I wonder and think there were some Ron Paul supporters who voted for McCain in the winner takes all states where the respective McCain was expected to win. This means they would have representation for Paul and would vote for Paul instead of McCain!
I have actually suggested this isea on a site and read yesterday on a blog others mentioned the same. Thus there could be a surprise for the MSM...
