Ron Paul Second in Maine State Delegates with 35%

Romney has 52% of the vote while Paul has secured 35% of the state delegates who will allocate Maine's 18 national delegates in May.

The final State Caucus before Super Tuesday is projected to be won by Governor Mitt Romney based on 74% of the presidential preference poll votes in Mitt Romney has 52%. There's a battle for second place, in popular votes, going on between Ron Paul and John McCain. As of 4:34est the Maine Republican Party website showed there were just 154 votes separating the two with over 25% of the caucus locations still to report in.

According to a press release by Jesse Benton, of the Ron Paul campaign, the Texas Congressman, with his message of liberty and freedom, has already picked up 215 of the total 608 Maine state delegates. This number could increase as results come in from the final 6 counties. 35% of the state delegates place him second behind Mitt Romney even though McCain has a slight lead in the popular vote. There is no way for John McCain to catch Ron Paul in state delegate count even if he holds on to his slim lead in polling simply based on cities and caucus locations already won by Ron Paul

Although many major newspapers are giving all 18 Maine National Delegates to Mitt Romney that is not the case. State delegates in Maine are non-binding. The actual allocation of the 18 national delegates will not be determined until May 2 when the Maine Republican Party State Convention is going to be held and the state delegates will then decide.

"Ron Paul's strong second place finish in Maine, in which he beat John McCain, is proof that this race is far from over," said Ron Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. "We'll continue to battle for every delegate in this wide-open race for the Republican nomination."

Thanks for reporting this. Was wondering when I'd finally see the delegate count out of Maine. It is unfortunate that I have to go to free press to find information the nation should be informed about.

Ron Paul for sure is going to take Washington, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, N and S Dakota, Colarado, W Virginia, just to name a few, Hawaii I think he has a good campaign manager now and we common people really don't understand how this delegate allotment works, so we should not loose heart, infact sources close to McCain say his panic attacks are quite serious...

Let's remember there is a reason we have a vice president slot incase something happens to the president...

McCain is not as healthy as the media would like you to think..

The dollar is falling against almost everything...even against Iraq’s dinar

Practically all new jobs have been created either by government, or in housing, health care, bars or restaurants. Jobs in manufacturing are now at levels not seen since just after WWII.

Americans’ problem is that they’ve spent too much, borrowed too much,
and saved too little. That problem will not go away. It needs to be corrected.

Deal with it, handle it, and take care of it... it's your country.

IF YOU VOTE FOR THE MEDIA PICKS YOU WILL BE DOOMED>

RON PAUL... Hope for America.

35% is not almost half. It is slightly better than one third. This is still good news, but we need to do better.

There's a difference between the presidential preference vote (popular vote) and actual state delegates secured for a candidate.  He is second in state delegates based on the cities and county he won.  Overall votes are still showing him in a tight race with McCain but McCain does lead him in overall votes slightly.  I hope that clarifies it for you rkchase.  Thanks for the comment and the chance to further define the numbers.

Americans need to get off their Fat a**es and support this man. So far all i've seen is a bad campaign & no creativity. Great campaign ideas. Bad supporters & campaign events (No creativity). Lesser countries go to the streets & accomplish change.

Look at vapid Obama....all style and no substance. Tons of money & supporters, because he frames himself graphically (photos, typestyles & soundbites) in ways reminiscent to the 50's-60's,JFK & Martin Luther King & says the same thing over & over 'I represent change' bring the non-reason of race into the equation & emotion.

Meanwhile we can't even position Ron Paul in most peoples minds. Every person my wife or I talk to......they DON'T know who Ron Paul even is !!!!! They know who OBAMA is.

Obama sucks & is crooked. When people hear Ron Paul's positions they love him.....they just never heard of him before that time.

GET THE WORD OUT !!!!!

I live in Montana and I can tell you Ron Paul is not going to win here. The reason is that the Montana GOP caucuses is open only to Republican Party functionaries (elected officials, precinct committee members, etc.). It's rigged for Romney.
