Topic: Ron Paul
Huckabee: 'Fly Paper' for the Evengelical Vote?

Why does Huckabee get more votes than Ron Paul - but no money? Are his votes real?
by Alex Wallenwein

Here are the points, in bullet format:

  1. Giuliani is now likely to be out, as predicted;
  2. Huckabee has no or little money left, no chance on Super Tuesday against McCain and Romney;
  3. Ron Paul has more money than any fo them (minus Romney's personal millions), but few votes in primaries, so far;
  4. Huckabee has considerable votes - but no monetary support. Why??

Would it not be reasonable to assume that Christians who allegedly are so enamored with Huckabee that they continue to give him a sizable portion of their votes would also be more than happy to support him financially?

How can it be that Ron Paul gets the money, but no votes, and Huckabee gets votes, but no money?

Whose support is therefore "more real"?

That entire set up is as suspicious as could be. There can be no doubt that Ron paul's support is real. People just don't part with their hard-earned money to support someone they aren't sure about. Would they part with their votes in an actual primary to support someone they are not willing to spend money on?

This is either a complete enigma, or an indication that the votes for Huckabee aren't real.

However, let's assume that his votes are real. Can he afford to keep running? The answer to that must be a resounding "No!" by any reasonable measure. If Giuliani, the formerly top contribution-getter of the GOP can't afford to run with millions remaining in his war chest (the actual numbers don't come out until January 31st), then how can Huckabee afford to run without hardly any money at all?

This leads to the conclusion that Huckabee, if he does continue, is doing so only at the behest of his CFR handlers for the exclusive purpose of acting as "fly paper" for the Evangelical vote. The establishment cannot afford to allow Ron Paul to get a sizable portion of the votes on Super Tuesday, or it's all over for them.

Here is the good news:

If the above conclusion is false and Huckabee is not secretly prodded (and funded) to continue, he should be bowing out very soon, even though he is, so far at least, not giving any indications in that respect.

When he does, the scenario suggested in "Ron Paul: Last Man Standing" will come into play again, where only Ron, McCain, and Romney are still running and competing on Super Tuesday.

Can you imagine the socially conservative Christian vote going to either "flip-flop Mitt" or "double-talk express McCain"? I'm not sure about you, but I can't.

What issue is more important for evangelicals: The war in Iraq, or the demonstrated personal integrity (or lack thereof) of the candidates? (That brings something to mind: Where are the conservative talk show hosts that kept telling us that "character counts" when Bush ran against Gore and Kerry? If character indeed counts, then Ron Paul must be the undisputed winner and champion of all talk show jockeys - but he is not.)

The outcome of this election will most certainly demonstrate who we are as a nation. It will also demonstrate for all to see whether the Christians of this country can still pride themselves of voting their conscience and their values - or simply the wishes of their CFR-influenced church leaders.

I'm an evangelican Christian that supports Huckabee.  I can't stand Romney.  However, even though I have respect for Ron Paul and actually agree with him on SOME things, I could never vote for him.  I'd vote Romney before Ron Paul.

Heck, if one existed and it came down to it, I'd vote for a socially conservative democrat before voting for Ron Paul.

Hmmm... Tom Johnson is quick to announce to us in no uncertain what he would and woudn't do, but seems reluctant to even bother to mention "why?"

Alex, I like your article and it got my "Thumbs Up," however when you misspell words in the TITLE, people will tend to discount your seriousness as an author!

I am a Mike Huckabee supporter!  I'm real!

 I am voting my conscience; and I've supported financially what I am able to.

 Mike Huckabee resonates with people, but does not have the deep pockets of other candidates.  His grassroots efforts are strong, but when the media (as you Ron Paul supporters can agree on) is biassed against a candidate and all but says they are officially out of the race... people who trust the news to be "fair and balanced" because they've been hypnotized by hearing "fair and balanced" so long believe it.

 We'll continue to support Mike Huckabee to the end.  I'll write his name in on the ballot as President (not Veep) and I will vote this time not for the party but for the man I feel should take office.  He may or may not win; but I will, as he will, maintain my integrity.

May I just say, I'm not anit-Ron Paul.  I believe he has some great ideas and I appreciate what he's brought to the election.  If it were not for the hippy aspect of so many of his supporters people would probably take him more seriously.  Our nation has moved so far from the strict constitutional following, to bring it back is going to realistically take some time and balance by a wise leader.  The riots we would have if all goverment help disappeard... but if we can put more power in people's hands and eliminate the penalty for productivity... we can ween people off of government dependence and then a position as far right as Ron Paul's might begin to be accepted.

Why? Why would someone who is a conservative choose to vote Romney over Paul? Nothing -- absolutely nothing -- we have seen or heard yet from the Paul campaign proves he can win anything. Yes, he won straw polls, big deal -- he won the straw poll in SC and got beaten like Rodney King in the actual primary.

People are going to vote based on what they belive, and there are a LOT of neo-conservatives who propped up Bush and will never, ever vote Ron Paul. I know people where I work talking about the election, saying that if it comes down to it, and McCain is the Republican nominee, they'll vote Obama or not vote at all. When I mentioned Ron Paul they cracked up laughing.

The reason you have money and no votes, I suspect, has less to do with Alex-Joneseque conspiracies and more to do with the fact that, sadly, you are spending your money wildly on a lost cause that I suspect less than 15% of America's actual voters would agree with. And 15% isn't enough.

We have just been provided with a glimpse at some of the "reasoning" shared by Huckaee supporters. This is instructive and could lead to enhancement of Dr. Paul's support base if the intelligence gathered here is acted upon. I call upon that fraction of Ron Paul supporters (you know who you are) to get a hair cut, a clean shave, and do your best to look like a member of Oral Roberts choir. This will cause your candidate to be taken seriously.

OK, I'm just kidding around, and I mean no disrespect. These Huckaboomers have however demonstrated that at least some of Huckabees supporters are somewhat narrow-minded and judgemental. At least that's the impression their comments left on me.

Most Americans can't see THE BIG FAT LIE, the charade this ONE PARTY GOVERNMENT gives the public, where Republicans are up against Democrats, while the reality allows us to see that they are just opposite wings of the same evil bird (The Nazis had an Eagle too, go figure!). The real political clash in the US is between two ideologies: Globalization/Globalism which is sponsored by the CFR (Council of Foreign Relations)/Trilateral Commission (Rockefeller) vs National Sovereignty, sponsored by The Constitution of The United States. The CFR has key character on the political spectrum and in both parties (Clinton, Huckabee, Obama, Edwards, McCain, Romney, Cheney, Bush...etc) these people aren't loyal to the principles of our Consitution (Free Markets, Sound Money, Declared Wars by Congress Only, Personal/Civil Liberties, etc). Knowing this truth makes my choice very clear, and that is Dr. Ron Paul, a Congressman who has an impeccable voting record/personal life and is a strict Constitutionalist (The LAW). Let's stop falling for these manipulation tactics and support the ONLY CANDIDATE who can call himself "The Champion of the Constitution", the one document that made this country great, which prevents us from the problems of Inflation by making it a law that money should be backed up only by Gold and Silver as legal tender, a document which takes away the powers King Bush thinks he has in order to declare wars around the world, the one document our Founding Fathers left us as the foundation of America (The Greatest Country that ever was). LET'S BE REAL AMERICANS, LETS SUPPORT THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, LET'S SUPPORT DR. RON PAUL, he is not in bed with the Corporations and Bankers who run this country. I ask of you my fellow American to Support Dr. Paul for SANITY'S SAKE, so your children and their children don't regret you didn't.

Statist Why do you have such a hard time with LIBERTY? Why is that people who want to be FREE threaten you so? Childish answers go no where. Dont we pledge allegiance to the REPUBLIC for which it stands? Dont we have LIBERTY and JUSTICE for all? Didnt our Fore fathers die to make you FREE? Why are you so scared of it? Is it the fact that you will have to be personally responsible for your successes as well as your failures? Dr. Paul is not always right. He is a man like the rest of us. Fallible. But when you have someone who wants to follow the rules and not make it up as his/her whim dictates the rules should be. Or even better what some banker thinks it should be. We are screaming for LIBERTY for you too. LIBERTY or DEATH

I am a also a real, live, contributing Huckabee supporter. Ron Paul is my second choice as the author surmised should logically be the case.

I was initially turned off by Dr. Paul's rolled shoulder whinning during the debates, and by the raving of his supporters online (witness Carlos C's repeated post above). However the issues section on his website won me over.

What Ron Paul's campaign needs to do is combine with Mike Huckabee's campaign. Huckabee would be the front man, and Ron Paul could write the policy and the checks ;)

 The Huckabee supporters would have to lay off scaring people with religion. Paul's supporters would have to start using fully formed paragraphs and stop thinking in ALL CAPS.

Being the son of an evangelical pastor, I can say with full confidence that most conservative Christians mistakenly believe that the goals of the Church (love and personal virtue through salvation) can somehow be accomplished through the coercive powers of the State (law backed by force). They totally disregard how poorly Church/State unions have historically turned out and misunderstand the proper role of government (i.e., the protection of personal liberties). I do not judge them too harshly in that regard, though, because their intentions are probably well-intended despite being misguided, and there was a time when I thought the same way.

Many conservative Christians look back at the supposed "golden days" of Christianity in American society (pre-1910) and think that they can bring those days back by making the government act more "Christian," perhaps by electing an overtly Christian president. However, they fail to see that what made America a "great Christian nation" in the past was that there were a multitude of great Christians among the common people, not just in governmental positions. That being the case, their goal can only be realized through effective, private evangelism (bottom-up) and not through any governmental program or particular officeholder (top-down).

I believe that Huckabee has capitalized on those misconceptions by offering himself up as that Christian president who can bring back the glory days, and much of his popularity is due to that strategy. However, if Huckabee were elected, many Christians who helped him into office would assuredly be disappointed at the lack of fundamental moral transformation one would actually observe in the federal government or the country at large. In fact, it is my guess that Huckabee would just continue the statist "compassionate conservatism" of George W. Bush to the continuing demise of our country's economy and our personal liberties.
