Some years ago I read a description of a cycle that describes societal progression – I don’t remember where. It went something like this:From bondage to faith;through faith to freedom;with freedom to abundance;from abundance to complacency;from complacency to apathy;and back to bondage.
To me, this is a pretty good model of our relatively young country. I would argue that we are rapidly sliding into the last stages, with the chains of bondage getting tighter every year, and a great portion of the population not noticing – even welcoming – most of them.
In the ‘90’s I was very active in promoting liberty through weekly columns, a TV show and large gatherings at my place of business (in the SF Bay area). In ’96, I promoted Charles Collins for the Republican nomination for President whose platform included getting rid of the Federal Reserve. He was totally ignored by the MSM. I knew Aaron Russo and sold hundreds of his "Mad as Hell" videos.
The bottom line was that the message of the evils and traps of collectivism was well received by many, but hardly anyone was willing to DO anything. Needless to say this was very discouraging. One bright light provided a ray of hope – Congressman Ron Paul, whom my wife and I met that year at a conference. We knew of him, of course, and had the opportunity of a couple of hours alone with him. We’ve been supporting him ever since. We’ve seen the dirty tricks the GOP has pulled to keep "Dr. NO" from getting re-elected in his Texas district.
Hope is now turning into faith as I witness the "grass fire" his message has caused, particularly with the younger people who will hopefully be our future government, taking us from bondage to freedom. The president can only do so much – we need to own the government at all levels.
I pray for us to have a "faith firm and immovable as a rock, through which we shall rest tranquil and steadfast amid the inevitable crosses, toils and disappointments of life", to regain and keep our freedom.

From abundance to complacency, as the impossible becomes mundane
From complacency to apathy, as we no longer see the dream
From apathy to bondage, as we forget why we had faith in the first place.
