Topic: Presidential Campaign 2008
John McCain's Swift Boat?

John Holland, founder of Rolling Thunder, an influential MIA/POW veterans group, opposes John McCain. A new documentary may dramatically increase veteran dislike of McCain and sink his campaign.

In the January 25th MSNBC Republican Presidential Debate in Boca Ratan, Florida, John McCain claimed competence in economics and then stumbled around on an economic question posed to him (link). Following the debate McCain has attempted to swiftly channel the Florida campaign in the direction of national security, which he feels is his strength.

However, opposition to McCain by influential veterans groups has been developing, which may mortally wound him in a general election contest--if not before.

John Holland, Founder of Rolling Thunder® (link), a POW/MIA veterans group that brings 500,000 patriotic veterans to rally annually in Washington, D.C., has strongly criticized McCain's role in POW/MIA issues (link).

Now a new award-winning documentary has the potential to become John McCain's "swift boat" out of contention if it proves to be true (link). A January 18, 2008, press release (link) for the documentary states in part:

For Immediate Release
OROVILLE, Calif./EWORLDWIRE/Jan. 18, 2008 --- The award-winning documentary film, "Missing, Presumed Dead: The Search For America's POWs" narrated by Ed Asner backs up allegations that John McCain repeatedly thwarted attempts by U.S. Senate investigators to examine the abandonment of American POWs in Southeast Asia and North Korea.

"Missing Presumed Dead," which won two film festival "Best Documentary" awards, explores McCain's successful attempt to pass a stealth bill in the Senate which effectively keeps his POW records sealed in perpituity and provides insight into why he does not want these records ever to be made public - including the revelation of the many propaganda radio broadcasts he delivered for the North Vietnamese. The film also explains why McCain's refusal of early release from a North Vietnamese POW camp had a less than honorable motive.

The charges against McCain are revealed in the documentary by such political luminaries as former New Hampshire Senator Bob Smith; Jesse Helms' chief of staff, Dr. James Lusier; former Congressman Bob Dornan; U.S. Senate lead investigator, Tracy Usery; and author, Dr. Joseph Douglass, Jr. ("Betrayed").

If the documentary proves to be substantially accurate, the erosion of John McCain's status as war hero and champion of veterans may force him to learn some economics fast.
