Three Liberals, a Theocrat and Ron Paul A look into the choices and non-choice the Gop has given us. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paulby David Powers

I'm a baseball fan, always have been. My favorite team is the hated New York Yankees. We have a pretty strong squad (A-Rod, Jeter, Posada, Damon, Abreu) even though we haven't accomplished much in October in 8 years. Still, on opening day I don't have to hear that my third basemen is Mike Lamb; and my shortstop is Cesar Izturis. On opening day the hope is there that my guys can win it all!
Around the same time the Yanks won their last World Series (2000) I joined another team: the GOP. I did what I was supposed to: I voted for Bush twice, I voted Republican in the senate races and I called for the killing of all Muslims after 9/11 (we're not there yet but the voters are pulling for the right guys this time). When it was discovered that Iraq had WMDs I was a vocal supporter of the invasion. Recently I made a decision to start thinking for myself and not let radio-host drug-addicts form my thoughts for me. I bought a pocket-sized Constitution and actually read it. Around this time I caught a little of the GOP debate in South Carolina and I heard this guy Ron Paul talking about blowback and how the terrorists are here because we are over there. I scratched my head for a second, and then Rudy Giuliani piped in that Ron Paul had just spoken treason. In the coming weeks every GOP talking head and the rest of the candidates made it clear that we were being targeted for our freedom and wealth (even though the CIA, the 9/11 Commission, and even Bin Laden himself said it was because we have troops on sacred Muslim soil). OK, but Switzerland is free and prosperous; why has nobody ever attacked them.
It is eight months later and the field has narrowed down to five. We have 3 liberals (McCain, Romney and Giuliani), one theocrat (Huckabee), and one Constitutionalist (Ron Paul). If I need to explain why McCain, Romney and Giuliani are liberals you have joined this game very late.
Let's take a look at the liberals: This is the team the GOP leaders want you to choose from. Just take a look. The GOP could care less if they elected Hugo Chavez as long as they can beat the democrats. I'm sorry, but all I see are democrats. Not only democrats, they're liberals! This is your best to beat the dreaded democrats? Any one of these guys could be a democrat.
Then we come to the most entertaining. Why is Huckabee a theocrat you may ask (only if you are Hellen Keller)? Well this is the man that said he wanted to change the Constitution to fit god's word. But where is the love? He has all these "evangelicals" voting for him yet he has no money! If they really loved him they could give him some of the money that's paying for the pastor's wife's new Mercedes S Class. That would be nice!
Then we are left with Ron Paul, the scholarly nerd from Texas. He is such a threat to the system, that even though he is the biggest GOP fundraiser, he can't buy a lick of airtime on the Mainstream Media broadcasts. He has come in second in the Nevada and Louisiana primaries and most people don't know his name.
He is a finance expert, a foreign policy student and his background is spotless (except of course for the newsletter hit-piece by Kirchick, see my "Unholy Alliance" article for more on that).
Nobody in the GOP is willing to give him a chance although he is the only anti-Iraq war candidate running on either side and polls say 70% of the voters want the USA out of Iraq. He is the only chance to beat the democrats! The only logical conclusion that can be drawn is that the GOP has too much invested in our military industrial complex to allow Ron Paul a sniff at the nomination. C'mon, he wants to close all bases around the world and not police it.
Follow the money, who is gaining the most from this war? A trillion dollars a year is spent and where does that money go? It goes to those who supply the military. We are in 180 nations around the world for reasons that escape me (what is the strategic significance of an Army base in Heidelberg, Germany?) and each of those bases needs food, weapons and transportation. Who gets that money?
If you are still wondering why Ron Paul is not "electable" I'm sorry. You are probably like I was 8 months ago. You haven't asked yourself why this government is BORROWING trillions and fighting a "War on Terror" against a group that numbered in the 2,000 range and was almost destroyed in 2002, but is now receiving new recruits everyday. You have probably asked, "What good is money if we're all dead?" All the while China, Saudi Arabia and other countries are buying up American companies and American soil. You probably shout down the "peacenik", traitors who want to see an end to interventionist foreign conflicts by saying, "If we don't fight em over there, we will fight them over here!" All the while the information points to them being here because we are over there.
Thanks GOP! You've CHOSEN a great group for us to pick from. What will the deficit be 4 years from now?

We're in about 130 countries which is far too many. I'm glad to see someone pointing out Huckabee's biggest danger, his comments strongly indicate a theocratic leaning. For this reason he, instead of Ron Paul, may be courted strongly by the Constitution Party since they have many of the same theocratic leanings. Since the GOP dislikes him nearly as much as Ron Paul it is doubtful he will reach the pinnacle of success by becoming the Republican Party nominee.
I found Dr. Paul's last response in the MSNBC debate very moving. I've wondered myself what ever happened to the GOP. I have never voted party line and even left it for a time when I was a Congressional candidate for the LP yet I have been a member for nearly the full three decades past. They seem to not only dislike liberty minded Constitutionalists but actually don't seem to want us in the party any longer. The Republican Liberty Caucus has be locked in a closet for too long. No matter, those supporting Dr. Paul understand this revolution is just beginning. As you stated, "...we will be here to carry on the Revolution and defend the Constitution from those that would harm it!"
It may interest you to know that Ron Paul is also a Christian, supports homeschooling and also wants Creation taught in public schools alongside evolution. He is against abortion on Christian grounds, and against gay marriage, and wants to make marriage a church-based institution rather than one recognized by the State. Is he also a Theocrat?
I really don't think you know what the word 'Theocrat' means, or you wouldn't use it to apply to a guy like Huckabee. We could probably use a bonafide theocrat in this country, but Huckabee isn't that guy. I've been thinking maybe an Oliver Cromwell-like person? Never mind - even Cromwell would wash his hands of the mess this country is in. Carry on.
Dan: While what you say of Ron Paul are true, he (unlike Huckabee) openly states that he does NOT believe that it is the job of the federal government to dictate what public schools teach, who can marry whom, etc. In fact, he believes that doing so is unconstitutional and illegal. I do not know Huckabee's particular stance on these issues, though being the "evangelical Christian" candidate does give me a pretty good idea. Huckabee would be just more of the same for the executive branch for the next four years. Vote Ron Paul 2008!

I can't speak about every country's American base, but here in Germany, the local powers where Americans bases are located, want them to stay there because of the money they put into the local economy. One city here has 34,000 Americans in it (they have the largest population of Americans of any city outside of America). So while I agree with much of your article, this one particular point is not so simple.
Jeff: You're right on one part, many countries don't want us to leave because A: were not actively killing your people B: were giving you a sense of free protection and C: were giving you a bunch of free money! I don't blame you either, 34k of our troops spending my fellow Americans tax dollars in your country is definately a plus for you. However I would much rather keep those tax dollars and use my own hard earned money how I liked, sorry..

Why is Goldman Sachs buying our election??? The Wikipedia article on Goldman Sachs alone is enough to be a wake up call to SANE individuals.

The "top tier" (as we've been told) candidates also are financed by major media corporations.
Do we support our troops and who they trust for a Commander in Chief or not? THEY are the ones who know what's going on at ground level in these countries.

It should be pointed out that the Army/Navy/Air Force as a group does not give collectively to any candidates, only to authorized charities--so the donations to Ron Paul had to be INDIVIDUAL donations. That speaks LOUD and CLEAR to me.
Jason: A Theocrat is someone who wants to place God at the head of the nation, with himself as the likely conduit between God and man. Examples of attempted large-scale Theocracies in Western Culture(aside from Moses) in history would be Calvin in Geneva and Cromwell in England. Mike Huckabee is a guy who wants to change a few issues in favor of a more Biblical approach; this is a far cry from a Theocrat, and anyone who calls him a Theocrat clearly doesn't understand the Theocratic ideal. I like Ron Paul a lot, but I am totally turned off by the extreme language that is used by some of his followers. Extremeism and Hyperbole = loss of credibility with the mainstream. Stick to legit criticisms of Huckabee as a big government guy, don't try to describe him as a Christian Zionist, that's just stupid.
"Even if Dr Paul does not receive the nomination we will be here to carry on the Revolution and defend the Constitution from those that would harm it!"
I am so sick and tired of watching this country go to hell. I voted for Mike in '04, and people told me I was wasting my vote. When I tell them I am voting for Ron Paul, I get a slightly different reaction; I just feel like there's nothing I can do to help. Someone give me some ideas!
REVOLUTION! Take the "R" off and you have "EVOLUTION!!! Now we have the Ron Paul "Revolution". Ron Paul is a Christian which possibly means that he feels, "God" created everything that is, was or ever will be. Evolution, is not a theory, it is proven on a daily basis, as we ourselves evolve as a result of what surrounds us. Sooo, why not elimenate the creationist theory vs. evolution, and say that "God" created evolution???
Ron Paul, would like to give back the power, through the Constitution, to the people of America. Freedom of religion is part of that. I am pretty sure, "God", would like that as well, regardless of any conflicting beliefs.
I feel Ron Paul also agrees with this and though, I am not a member of any religion, he has my vote!
