Can Ron Paul Beat Hillary in November?

Exploring the reality of a Ron Paul bid for the White House. Is he a viable contender in the 2008 presidential election?

Yes. In fact, I would argue that he is the only Republican candidate who can beat Hillary. Why? Because he attracts people from everywhere. He has a solid record as a conservative, so as the Republican nominee, he'll get those votes. But, more than any other Republican candidate running, he pulls in people from other sides, too--disenchanted Democrats, Independents, and people who, until now, have been apathetic, thinking there is no one in politics who represents them. If Paul wins the Republican nomination (and he has beaten Giuliani in most of the primaries and caucuses thus far and taken second place in two of them), he will get votes from:

  • all Republican voters

plus

  • the massive amount of disenchanted voters from across the political spectrum

plus

  • the newly enchanted who normally wouldn't vote at all.

Those numbers will put him in the White House. Period.

This is essential to our country because Paul is the only candidate running who is directly addressing the cause of the economic problems we are facing now: the devaluation of the dollar. And the biggest cause of that? The Federal Reserve.

I fear that because monetary issues are quite complicated that people tend to consider Paul too intellectual and blow him off simply because they do not understand these issues themselves. Hey, the details are way over my head, too, but they are not over Ron Paul's. The man got into politics after studying monetary policy and being disturbed--decades ago, even--at how this country runs its finances. He now has a concrete, four-point plan (available on his website) to get us back on track financially. And make no mistake, this is the most important issue for the next election because, regardless of our other problems, if this country's currency falls apart, the nation will, too.

I have heard from friends that Ron Paul "just doesn't seem presidential." I don't care if he doesn't seem as polished as other candidates; I care that he knows what he is talking about. He is the candidate who actually has historical (as well as current) facts and figures to back up everything he says. If you look past the painfully vague language of the other candidates ("we need to bring Americans together," "we need a strong national defense," "we need real change"), and the insincere tactics like addressing Americans as "My friends" (does that really work on anyone? Apparently...), and instead look for the most intelligent candidate running, it's clearly Ron Paul. Many people agree with that, whether presidential in appearance or not. If you look at the records of all of the candidates, you find one who is consistent and principled: Ron Paul. If you look at the candidate who takes no money from special interest groups and giant corporations, you find Ron Paul. He is the only person running--on either side--whose motivation is NOT power, but the restoration of this country. He wants to return power to individuals and discontinue the out-of-control secrecy within a government that was designed to be "of the people, by the people, for the people."

There is one glaring conclusion to draw as these first few states' primary results come in: perhaps Americans do not, in fact, want change. We speak about it, we ask for it, but are we, too, being insincere? The politicians have all jumped on the "real change" bandwagon, but the differences between most of the candidates--both Republican and Democrat--barely exist. If Americans really do want change from where we are now and where we are headed, there is only one man for the job. His name is Ron Paul.

Can you explain what the question was that Dr. Paul asked John McCain? Seemed like McCain was confused and didn't know what Dr. Paul was talking about.

Paul referenced this group "Working Group on Financial Markets"

Here is a link to more info

McCain although being in congress at the time of this groups establishment didn't appear to have any idea as to who is on it or what it's purpose is.

Ron Paul (may his holy name be praised by his humble believers), will be a martyr for the cause of free dumb. So no, global statism via Satan incarnate Hillary Clinton (curseth her name forever be) will beat whoever Satan appoints to lead the Republican Party. This is a prophesy of the profits, that statism and Armegeddon must come before Thomas Jefferson can return to the Earth to Restore Free dumb and Federalism arround the United States.

Those who have voted for Ron Paul shall be the anointed ones who will ascend into heavan and be with Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan (may peace be upon them)!

Those who did not vote for Ron Paul will be cast into the lake of fire where Satan and the CIA will burn them, water board them, and tourture them for all eternity. Repent now all ye unbelievers and non-voters. Go register to vote now or else face the consequences of Statism for all eternity!

If you are not with us, then you are against us.

O Ron Paul liveth and blessed be the light of his salvation! Spare the Ron, spoil the nation.

In the beginning there was the Word, and the Word was Ron Paul, and the word was with Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is my sheapherd I shall not want, for he leteth me lie in green pastures and leadeth me to still waters. He restoreth my soul and leadeth me to the path of free dumb for his name sake! Ye that I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no Statism, for Ron Paul is with me. He Rod and his staff they comfort me.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only hope, Ron Paul, that whosoever shall voteth for him shall not perish, but have everlasting free dumb.

Oh definitely, Americans want change: change in color from red to blue, change in the face and name of the people who will still be ruining our country...essentially just a change the name of the dictator.

Ron Paul not presidential?  Is Bush presidential?

It's not the cover but the content.

Paul's got content and then some.

Bush has neither.

No, Mr. Gradwell, I am illistrating Absurdity by being absurd.

The furvent Ron Paul worship that is on this site is troubling. It is akin to the Inteligent Design crowd being invited to an all encompassing discussion of evolution and science.

When Ron Paul loses we might actually get back to real debate.

Ron Paul can annihilate BOTH Clintons simultaneously in a well-organized, and FAIR debate.  His encyclopedic knowledge of affairs and solutions will make the Clintons sound even dumber than they look.

Statist - So far, the only argument I've seen from you is that his supporters like him too much and that they annoy you with their enthusiasm. So, why not state your issues with Ron Paul's political platform? Please be specific.

The Statist, Apparently you are agnostic or atheist because if you were of faith you would not use such blasphemy. But I will not push views, you have your right to express them and I can understand your frustration that YOUR LORD (the State) is having a hard time keeping the ‘cattle’ in line. Please answer this question: Is the State subordinate to the individual or is the individual subordinate to the State? Your answer, I’m sure, would either explain your hatred towards Paul or contradict it. Calling freedom ‘Free Dumb’ explains a lot about the contempt you have for individualism and personal liberties. You may think this is all a joke, but then again I guess that is why we are voting for Paul because we know that the situation our nation is in is NOT a joke. Thank you for your thoughts and exposure of your position. May the light of truth shine on you always.

blasphemy: A word used when the faithful refuse to use science and reason. It works well. I have criticized the Conservative-Statist positions that Ron Paul has taken regaurding the border. While I agree with the idea of hard currency, I have tried to point out that the general public could care less on this issue and that is why he should do what Reagan did and shut up about it.   I have also criticized his non-interventionism as inhumane, anti freedom, unpopular, and plain wrong. I have criticized his false statements about Iraq and how good or bad of a job our troops have done. I have criticized his view on shutting down bases overseas as stupid, wasteful, and treasonous that would allow global statism to rise up once again.

Other than that I think that he is a great guy and I agree with most of his positions. I just really want him to win, and I know that in order to do so, he must play the game.

I can never tell if Statist is sarcastic and smart or crazy and smart, but Im leaning toward sarcastic and smart.

He knows both the statist position and the Ron Paul position very well and can transition in and out of sarcasm with hardly a notice.

Be weary of the one known as "The Statist," for all is not right in the world of perception.
