My Letter To LULAC For Ron Paul

Dear LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens):

I'm writing you today to respectfully ask LULAC to prepare a scorecard for presidential candidates of both parties for the upcoming Super Tuesday primaries on February 5th.

I am a proud member of LULAC, a licensed attorney, a father of four children and a son of immigrants from Colombia and Puerto Rico . My wife and I are also dedicated homeschoolers.

I wholeheartedly support Texas Congressman Ron Paul. As a left-leaning civil libertarian, I consider Ron Paul to be the best hope for all Americans. I am not affiliated with the Ron Paul campaign in any way.

As you know there is a significant number of Hispanics in the Republican Party. I understand that LULAC cannot make endorsements but a scorecard on key issues is greatly needed as we near Super Tuesday in the party primaries. The man or woman who leads our nation for the next four years will leave a lasting mark on the freedom and prosperity of all Americans, especially Hispanics.

  • Ron Paul is the only candidate who will immediately end the war and bring Hispanics in uniform safely back to their families. Obama and Clinton both voted to fund the war and will not return troops before 2013 (and if that). John McCain wants to stay for another 100 years until the "job is done". Ron Paul receives more military support than any other Republican candidate.
  • Ron Paul is the only candidate who opposed the unconstitutional Patriot Act. This is the same kind of knee-jerk reaction to terrorism that landed U.S. citizen Jose Padilla in jail with no lawyer access and interrogation for several years. Obama, McCain and Clinton voted for this horrible piece of legislation.
  • Ron Paul is the only candidate who will not pre-emptively attack Iran or start any more wars in the Middle East. Obama said he would use missiles on Iran. McCain is ready to go to war. As we speak U.S. forces continue to drop thousands of bombs on a Middle Eastern country full of innocent families and children that had nothing to do with 9/11.
  • Ron Paul opposes U.S. intervention in the military and government affairs of Central and South America and other areas of the world. He espouses the wisdom of the founders of this country: "Commerce with all nations; entangling alliances with none". He is committed to stop the spread of U.S. imperialism and close over 100 U.S. military bases still on foreign soil. Obama and Clinton want to leave residual forces in the Middle East.
  • Ron Paul is the only candidate opposing the failed War on Drugs that affects minorities in disproportionate numbers throughout the country and is destroying our inner-cities. Even illegal immigrants are often caught up in this dragnet and cycle of violence. Ron Paul would stop the federal prosecution of non-violent drug crimes such as mere possession or use of medical marijuana. Obama, a former drug user, and all the others support the Drug War.
  • Ron Paul is the only candidate who will stop the corrupt capitalism of big businesses that choke small Hispanic businesses with onerous regulations, incessant taxes and targeted economic policies. Hispanics must have an opportunity to be self-reliant and successful in the market place. Speaking as a business owner, I know how difficult this can be. Bill Clinton once made an "empowerment zone" for the African-American community in Harlem. Ron Paul will do it for the entire country.
  • Ron Paul is the only candidate who will abolish the Federal Reserve System and back our money with precious metals like gold and silver to stop runaway inflation and cost of living surges. Even illegal immigrants suffer from this terrible hidden tax on the value of our money. Our country is headed for an economic depression with a weakening U.S. dollar. Who do you think is going to suffer the most when the banks foreclose and businesses everywhere go under?
  • In terms of Congress, Ron Paul has never voted to raise spending, increase the deficit, pass an unbalanced budget or authorize an illegal war.
  • Ron Paul has never accepted lobbyists. His congressional record speaks for itself.
  • Ron Paul is pro-life and believes in overturning Roe v. Wade. However, he opposes the federal government mandating abortion laws. Each state should decide how to handle this very controversial issue, even among Hispanics. As an OB/GYN doctor, Paul delivered over 4000 babies in his career.
  • Ron Paul wants to reform our healthcare by stopping government barriers to better healthcare access. As a doctor in an inner-city hospital, Paul treated all patients no matter what their ability to pay or their health insurance coverage. He understands that government meddling in healthcare created our current crisis.
Is Ron Paul a serious candidate?
  • Ron Paul has raised more money in the last two financial quarters than any other Republican candidate. He raised $1.85 million on Martin Luther King Day alone in honor of the slain civil rights leader. While other candidates such as Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and Rudy Giuliani all ran out of money, Paul continues to increase his support from every day Americans. His average donation is $50.
  • Ron Paul has more supporter Meetup Groups than any other candidate of either party.
  • Ron Paul won second place in the Nevada primary caucus, defeating John McCain and Mike Huckabee.
  • Ron Paul beat ex-mayor Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson in almost every early primary.
  • Ron Paul has been endorsed by ex-Governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson, Norma McCorvey ("Jane Roe" of Roe v. Wade), Antiwar.com columnist Justin Raimondo, well-known financial advisor Paul Luskin and MSNBC's Tucker Carlson, among many others.
  • As more Republicans drop out of the race, Ron Paul will likely enter a brokered GOP convention with enough delegates to push his issues of peace, freedom and prosperity.
Where does Ron Paul stand on illegal immigration?

I partially disagree with Ron Paul on his opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants. I personally believe that people in this country who are here to peacefully work, pay taxes and contribute to our society should not be deported.

I have received threatening hate mail from Caucasian (and one Hispanic) right-wingers who despise Ron Paul as being too soft on "illegals" and despise any form of guest-worker program or amnesty. I believe that no human being is illegal. Every human being has the right to work, live and be employed by others.

Ron Paul believes in reforming federal welfare as the primary means to stop incentives for illegal immigrants. Although I agree with reforming federal welfare, it's not the primary reason why immigrants come here. They come here to work. I've met many families and young people working two or three back-breaking jobs to know that they do not come here for a handout or to invade our private property.

In an interview with ABC's John Stossel, Paul stated he does not support the idea of a "border fence". Paul does want to secure our borders with a more effective Border Patrol and ensure that immigration laws are followed. I'll take reforming welfare over building a Berlin-type fence anyday to solve the problem of illegal immigration.

In light of Ron Paul's record on civil liberties and the Constitution, I am confident that I can agree to disagree with Paul on illegal immigration. I do think that we need to secure our borders to maintain peace, stop criminal violence and prevent any military threat. In light of the recent decrease in illegal immigration due to a horrible U.S. economy, the creation of an expensive fence and the deportation of hundreds of thousands of non-violent working families appear unlikely in a Ron Paul presidency, in my opinion.

Does Ron Paul support racism?

No. Many critics on the radical left and the pro-war right have taken out of context a handful of political newsletters from the late eighties and nineties that bore Ron Paul's name. CNN's Wolf Blitzer interviewed Paul on this issue and his official campaign response. The Congressman forcefully and clearly responded that he has never held racist opinions nor has ever spoken such "small-minded thoughts".

Paul reiterated his firm belief in the rights of each and every individual. Paul also emphasized that Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Rosa Parks were his personal heroes because of their work for civil rights and commitment to non-violent civil disobedience. Ron Paul despises what Jim Crow stood for. Additionally, the NAACP director of Austin, Texas, publicly stated that he has known Paul for many years and does not consider him a racist. As a Hispanic American, I am fully satisfied that Ron Paul respects people from all races and ethnicities.

For more information on my endorsement of Ron Paul, please read my "Open Letter To Hispanics On Behalf of Ron Paul" that was published here.

Thank you very much for your time and your dedicated advocacy on behalf of all Hispanic Americans and our country.

Sincerely,

Abelardo J. Arias

Telling hispanics that Ron Paul isn't against them is like telling the Black Panthers that the KKK just wanted to help them out by getting rid of the obstacles that make life suck for whites.

The only way Ron Paul has a chance of winning the nomination and the general election is if this video is sent to everyone, everywhere. We must send this to everyone we know...vote capture and tabulation has to be changed to ensure a fair election process. Please watch this and send it to EVERYONE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky-YXvxYbck&feature=related

Ron Paul is not against immigration.  He is against ILLEGAL immigration because it is ILLEGAL and killing our economy. Immigration is great as long as it is done legally and fairly.   It's not fair for someone from say JAPAN to have to wait 18 years to be granted access while people from South America can just break the law to come in here and then be rewarded for it.

OKAY...the video I posted above is about a computer programmer giving testimony to a grand jury about how he wrote code to fix the election in Florida. He was contracted to do the work by a senator...please watch and send to everyone you know. This information needs to be made public before the next election if you want Ron Paul to have a fair shake. After watching this myself I truley believe that some of the early primary states have been tampered with. Here it is again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky-YXvxYbck&feature=related

Great letter in support of Ron Paul. On the topic of immigration, I believe that in a Ron Paul presidency the economy will thrive like never before, because history has a habit of repeating itself. When, early in American history, the 3 branches of federal goverment obeyed the Constitution America had the world's strongest, most rapidly growing economy. My grandparents came from Italy and were welecomed here with opportunity because jobs needed to be filled, and this realistically can happen again. How many millions of new jobs will be created in a prospering economy? How many millions of people will have opportunity to start small businesses? I had personal experience in the 70s of the last century in hiring workers to do hard farm labor. It was relatively easy then for an employer to obtain a green card for a hiree -- so what's the problem today? I believe that the path for guest workers will be cleared of obstacles under President Paul. And when he brings our troops home from foreign countries they can be gainfully utilized by the INS to assist in the process of screening applicants for green cards to speed up the process. Those here illegally can go home, apply, and come back to resume the job they had, or obtain another job in the flourishing economy. Under President Paul, with the federal government out of the business of mismanaging health care, employers hiring guest workers will be able to afford health insurance, ending that part of the welfare state.

Ron Paul is the only candidate with a plan that will raise the wages of Latinos who live in this country legally. We have many Latino friends who work at low wages or are unemployed because illegal Latinos will work for less.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that truly cares about Latinos. He has delivered their babies - often for free. He does not view Latinos as some class or group, but as fellow citizens of this world striving for freedom and opportunity. Ron's programs to end the rewards for slothfulness (welfare) would allow the U.S. to open its borders to all those who want to work and make America strong.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that opposes NAFTA and other supra-government bureacracies that destroy free trade and jobs. Ron is the only candidate that has shown that NAFTA is one of the primary reasons that job opportunities have been destroyed in Latin America.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that has dared speak out against ethanol subsidies that have driven up the price of corn in both the U.S. and Mexico, thus depriving many Latinos a staple of their diet.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who has enjoyed lunch with my beautiful Peruvian wife and my "50% Inca" daughter.
