Ron Paul: Foresight to Lead

Many American's are convinced the complications of the Iraq War were impossible to predict. Just the opposite is true. How you act with that knowledge makes one a great leader.

Most Americans and politicians today would agree that the 2003 invasion of Iraq has led to an unforseen degree  of dogged inurgence resistance and more American troop casualties that we had expected. Most would also argue that if we had known that weapons of mass destruction did not exist, the sacrifices we, as a nation, have made would not be worth the price we have paid. With the largest and best funded intelligence agencies in the world and interviews from key members of the leadership making the decision to go to war, such as this 1994 interview of Donald Rumsfeld, it seems clear that they knew full well the sacrifices we would have to make:

Just today, the Center for Public Integrity accuses the Bush administration of a "carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation" about the prewar threat posed by Iraq. They claim, "The statements by Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, then National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other officials "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses".

Despite overwhelming popular support, Ron Paul stood his ground and evaluated the situation against his firmly held ideals, including that of the Christian theory of "Just War".

He presented his argument before congress asking for transparency in government and answers to many simple questions. Answers which would have opened American eyes to the misinformation being provided to us.

Rush Limbaugh has been clamoring all week that the Republican party has no candidate for president who has displayed even remotely the characteristic of leadership.  Leadership is difficult to define, but I suggest that the ability to stick to one's principles when the times are tough is a key characteristic of a leader. Ron Paul stands alone in that category. Take this 2003 interview before the invasion of Iraq as example:

Where would our country be now had we only heeded his words. I think most Americans agree that we would have saved the lives of thousands of American troops, protected our economy by not spending hundreds of billions in a war seemingly without end, and saved the great reputation of our nation throughout the world which is now mocked or scorned almost universally.

In this election year in which our country is in the midst of a prolonged war, and recession looms on the horizon, I cannot believe that most Americans will chose their president based upon who provides the best universal healthcare plan, or their view on abortion.  There are clearly more pressing matters facing America today.

That is why Ron Paul has my vote in this election, because if he were our president over the last 8 years, I feel certain our country would be better off that it is today.  I can't say that about any other candidate from either party.

Don't just take my word for it. More active military have supported Dr. Ron Paul with their hard earned money than any other candidate. Some feel even more strongly about the direction our country is headed.

What I want to know is why isn't this group being criminally prosecuted or investigated. If we all know that this was a sham and has cost the US lives and treasure why aren't we going after these scumbags? We are all upset over OJ getting away with murder while we let these group gett away with a larger crime.
