If Republicans choose Giuliani; are they stuck on stupid?

In winding down the Bush administrations stranglehold of this country, I really feel that a vast majority of Americans are thirsting and craving for a real change. If the Republicans wind up choosing Giuliani as their candidate, we will all be in for more of the same, if not worse. To the Republican Party, please tell me that you have learned from your past mistakes.

If Republicans choose Giuliani; are they stuck on stupid?

Before I start discussing the reason why former Mayor, Rudy Giuliani chose to put New York City’s emergency center in World Trade Building 7, I want to remind you of that age old saying, “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket” Giuliani explained his reason while being interviewed by CNN’s, John King on his trip to Great Britain.

When ferreting out the meaning of that saying, according to GoEnglish.com, they state, “To "put all your eggs in one basket" is to risk losing everything all at one time.” They go onto write, “If you had a certain number of "eggs", it would be safest to put those eggs in different "baskets" and not "put them all in one basket".  Note the operative words, which are different, losing and safest.  Keep those in mind.

I really want you to ponder on that as it relates to our national security and the city’s emergency system.  In Washington, D.C., you have separate buildings to house the White House, the Congress, the C.I.A, the F.B.I., the N.S.A. and the Pentagon.  That is the way it should be.  It is harder to take out multi-targets than a single target.

Now this is what Giuliani said for his reason for putting the emergency center in World Trade Building 7, “Well, I put my emergency center in a building that was also home of the CIA, the Secret Service, all the major federal agencies we've got to be in contact with in an emergency.” One does not have to be a rocket scientist to realize just how stupid it is to lump all of these eggs in one basket or in this case building.  It also screams out to the enemy, “Come and get me” Don’t you think?

Prior to placing that emergency center in that building; didn’t Giuliani know of modems, computers, cell phones, radios (yeah, I hear you on the radio business) and good old fashioned land lines?  He could have chosen an underground bunker to house this center instead of a building that did come down which was in a high target zone. The Hero of 9/11 and I use that term loosely effectually goofed big time with that move.

The thing that does bother me is that he is the Republican front runner.  Is the Republican Party so stuck on stupid?  Yes, I know that Fred Thompson is chomping at his heels and I will get to him in another piece.

When King challenged his reason as “far into the bravado part of it”, what did Giuliani say? “No, absolutely not. No. No. The idea was, we had to be in communication with those agencies. And those -- and that building got a great deal of security as a result of -- I mean, the CIA was there. The Secret Service was there. All the agencies were there.” Okay, Mr. 9/11, the security you were hoping for evaporated on that day along with the city’s emergency center.

I found it interesting yet scary when he said, “You know how many buildings in New York are targeted by terrorists? I used to know the list cold.” Will he remember the nuclear codes if elected president?  By the way, Rudy; how many buildings in New York City are targets and more importantly what buildings?  Forewarned is forearmed and those living in New York City should know what buildings.

As Wolf Blitzer brought Iraq into the mix and how Giuliani would handle that region, the Daisy ad came to mind when Giuliani said, “Whether it's Iraq itself or it's Kuwait or other parts of the Middle East, we're going to probably have to make a military commitment there for the indefinite future. And, maybe, if we do that we're going to get over this faster.” I will let you sit and ponder “get over this faster”, but I am terrified of that statement.

While at the time Wolf Blitzer was speaking to James Carville who stated of this comment coming from Giuliani, “I guess, for me, it's politely, how do I not bust out laughing?” Carville may be laughing, but, me, if Giuliani is elected president, I am building a bomb shelter.

Lately, I have been writing of Ron Paul because he has the forethought and wisdom to realize our deficits when it comes to our foreign policy.  Quite frankly the foreign policy blueprint we have been following for decades reminds me of the definition of insanity.  Insanity is, doing the same thing and expecting different results.

So when Giuliani stated, “And, as far as foreign policy experience goes, I have probably traveled to Europe, Asia and Africa more often in the last five, five- and-a-half years than any of the people that are running for president.” One must ask what he was doing while visiting those countries.  Just visiting a country is not proof of experience.  Being engaged with those continent’s histories as it relates to ours shows immense intelligence.  That comes from years and years of travel and not merely five-and-a-half years.

While he also cited in this interview that he has executive experience, so does New Mexico’s Governor, Bill Richardson who is a Democratic presidential candidate.  So does former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee.  I have written of Richardson’s vast experience which trumps Giuliani’s when it comes to both foreign policy experience as well as executive experience.  To my fellow Americans who are Republicans, Richardson was a congressman for fourteen years, our Energy Secretary, our UN Ambassador, has been used as a trouble shooter even by the Bush administration when it comes to conflicts abroad and a two term governor. Now that is experience.  Try topping that, Rudy.
