Today as you consider God's gift of life to each of us, I ask you to also consider the uniqueness of the pro-life stance of presidential candidate and OB/GYN Ron Paul.
Dr. Paul's approach to this issue sets him apart from all other candidates. It is fundamentally different because it is based on constitutional federalism and the rule of law.
Many will try to tell you that the only way to restore respect for life in America is to pack the Supreme Court with jurists who will overturn the infamous Roe v Wade decision.
Ron Paul is the only candidate who clearly states that Roe v Wade is inherently a federal usurpation of authority, and as such it need not be overturned by some hoped for future ruling of a precariously balanced Supreme Court. Congress itself can overturn this unconstitutional ruling, stripping it of its pretended power and leaving the states once again at liberty to protect life. (See for example HR300, a bill proposed by Congressman Paul.)
How could such a change be implemented relatively quickly? While the Supreme Court is immune to public pressure, congress is most certainly not. Presidential leadership plus public pressure could result in such legislation passing. Congressional authority would then immediately end the illegitimate coercion by federal courts that has had the effect of "legalizing" abortion in all 50 states over the vehement objections of many state and local communities and authorities.

Those who care deeply about this issue have in their zeal for life abandoned the principle of the rule of law, willing to abdicate authority to the federal government nowhere authorized in the constitution. By abandoning fundamental principles, the goal of protecting life has in fact also been abandoned because the moral high ground of truth and justice has been replaced with a corrupting attitude that "the end justifies the means."

Please don't fall for the simplistic rhetoric of other candidates who claim to be "pro-life". Click here for a video of Dr. Paul telling how a Ron Paul presidency would be qualitatively different from past presidencies in its strategy to end the federal usurpation of power embodied in Roe v Wade.
By abandoning the fundamental principle of the rule of law in a well-intentioned zeal for life, we have truly thrown out the baby with the bath water. Unless we return to our constitutional roots, we will continue indefinitely down a path where respect for both law and life are continually diminished. After more than 35 years of fruitless attempts to affect the high court, isn't it time for a new and more effective approach?
