To Nancy Pelosi with 1 million Iraqis dead; when will impeachment be on the table?

To the American people, one million innocent Iraqis blood is now on your hands. It is time to hold both Bush and Cheney responsible. The time has come to call for both of their impeachments and ultimately for the both of them to stand trial for crimes against humanity. When exactly will your outrage come? Your silence is deafening.

As we have listened to endless coverage of O.J. Simpson’s arrest for armed robbery; do we really need to hear his name or see his face considering the insurmountable causalities in Iraq?  Personally, I do hope they get him this time.  But, leave that to the judicial system of Clark County, Nevada.

What we really should be focusing on is the casualty rate in Iraq.  In their email alerts sent out everyday, Buzzflash.com includes the both the number of military casualties as well as Iraqi.  Thank you, Buzzflash.com for your public service.  For quite sometime now, they have been reporting that one million Iraqis lives have been ended in this “war of oil” as cited by Alan Greenspan (former Federal Reserve Chair).

The source they have been using is Just Foreign Policy and as one reads this article, according to them, 1,044,667 innocent Iraqis have been killed since the beginning of our illegal occupation of that country.

Just the other day, the mainstream media caught up with the alternative media in reporting this number.  I speak of the LA Times article, Poll: Civilian toll in Iraq may top 1M. According to their report, “a new survey suggested that the civilian death toll from the war could be more than 1 million.” Just stop and think of that number for a while.  It is a holocaust as I have written of this atrocity from day one.

During the nineties, the Republican leadership went after former President Bill Clinton seething with venom for lying to the American people concerning his affair with Monica Lewinsky.  In fact they impeached him and he was later acquitted by the senate.  It started with the Whitewater land deal and worked its way down to this intern.  Later on, the investigation itself was found to be without merit and we the taxpayers were stuck with a $70 million dollar bill.  They even used FBI resources to check the stain on that little blue dress.  I call that pathetic!

Now fast forward to when incoming Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi said of President Bush that “Impeachment was off the table” Looking at the numbers above where one million innocent people murdered due to Bush’s many lies; I ask you who deserves impeachment?

After reading the LA Times article considering most in power pay little attention to the alternative media, I am beyond words why both sides are not demanding that both Bush and Cheney be impeached.  Reading where one million Iraqis are now dead as a result of a Republican president, to the Republicans in both the House and the Senate, not to hold two of your own responsible meaning Bush and Cheney, you are beyond contempt.

I am especially at a loss when our presidential candidates on both sides are not speaking of this unfathomable number dead.  Not to diminish the lives lost on September 11th, but why isn’t anyone these candidates calling out for justice as one million Iraqis have been murdered by the Bush administration?  Many will speak of how we should handle Iraq; I think Iraq has been handled enough.  Don’t you?

Considering that there were no weapons of mass destruction, considering there was no Iraqi connection to 9/11, and considering the fact there was no Iraq/Niger connection in which Iraq was seeking to purchase yellow cake, these lies by the Bush make Clinton look like an alter boy.

First of all, Bush lied to congress which is an impeachable offense, but it surely does not even compare to when one million are dead as a result of those lies.  What does it take coming from the cowards in Washington to hold both Bush and Cheney responsible for these crimes?

Most of all, since this number is out there for everyone to read via the LA Times; exactly where is the outrage coming from the American people to demand that both Bush and Cheney be held responsible.  Oh yeah, they are too fixed on O.J.

The reason given that impeachment would not be sought is so that this 110th congress could focus on the people’s business namely the Iraq War.  Well seeing how the other side namely the Republican Party has been of no help getting things done on behalf of the American people, I say full steam ahead and start the investigations.  That should be the charge led by the Democratic majority.

This public message by the Honorable Nancy Pelosi was followed up by a private message given at a $500 a plate luncheon 23 days later. "There is no doubt that the Bush Administration should be censored. The deception has been unprecedented, but to call for impeachment is to place the heads of thirty-one of the fifty states on the chopping block as well, not to mention that our side of the aisle has almost unanimously supported the President on every call." I'm in complete agreement with this bestselling author. "We have a strong civil society that could, in theory, overcome the entrenched interests of the armed forces and the military-industrial complex. At this late date, however, it is difficult to imagine how Congress, much like the Roman senate in the last days of the republic, could be brought back to life and cleansed of its endemic corruption. Failing such a reform, Nemesis, the goddess of retribution and vengeance, the punisher of pride and hubris, waits patiently for her meeting with us." Chalmers Johnso

Hi, Mary,

A fine essay, as damning an indictment of American foreign policy as you will find. I would also call your attention to Elizabeth Holzman's excellent book, "The Impeachment of George W. Bush: a Practical Guide for Concerned Citizens". She is well-qualified, having sat on the committee that attempted to decide Nixon's fate. I criticized not her book but the concept of impeachment itself when I reviewed same on Amazon. To wit:

2) Is impeachment enough?

2-a. There is no punishment associated with impeachment save being forced to step down. Some would say that is sufficient given that stepping down from the Oval Office is quite a long step. I say, ask the three thousand men and women who died under false pretenses in Iraq. Those people are dead, and that's a lot worse than a little public humiliation.

2-b. There is insufficient preventive measure associated with mere impeachment. If Nixon had been impeached and then, say, hanged, perhaps Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld might have thought twice about invading a country under false pretenses. But he resigned before he could be impeached and after that his Veep pardoned him, denying us justice for all time. And because of that, Bush et al. felt they had carte blanche to trample on the lives of 3,000 men and women with their military hobby horse.

I also sent my two-cents worth on this topic to my state senators and congressmen thru Act for Change. The response I got back from Senator Feinstein is indicative of the problem.

 DearMr. Fulsan

Thank you for your letter concerning impeachment proceedings against Vice President Richard Cheney. ..At this time, however, I believe that impeachment proceedings against President Bush or Vice President Cheney will only divide the country even further, frustrating our hopes for a meaningful change in direction, while having little chance of success

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein

United States Senator

With that attitude, we'd still have slavery and women would not hold office or vote.

For what it's worth, you get a hearty thumbs up from me!

President Bush did not lie to Congress, he spoke with the best intelligence he had available. Congress also had the same intelligence. Let's tell it like it really is. If the truth be known, we could have more than likely had better intelligence information IF Bill Clinton has not decimated the intelligence structure in The United States while he help the office of President. It also holds true that we would not have had the number of casualties we do in Iraq IF Bill Clinton did not cut our armed forces in half and do away with the weaponry R&D also while he was President. (This is all part of how he ended up with a surplus at his terms end, you would end end with a surplus in your checking account if you didn't pay any bills or buy anything for 8 years also)

While agree that some things were handled badly, to state President Bush lied and that caused over one million people to die is over the top. I say Bill Clinton shares equal if not greater responsibility for the deaths and destruction in Iraq as well as the many dollars we have spent fighting the war.

Everything I have stated is verifiable on the Net if you check it out.

WAR is an acronym in the armed forces for "WE ARE READY"! Obviously we were not ready!

"President Bush did not lie to Congress, he spoke with the best intelligence he had available."

Actually, that's part of the lie. The only way to make that statement true is if you buy the idea that Bush was at the mercy of his intelligence people and completely ignorant of what they were doing. In fact, the opposite was true. Bush replaced a significant number of top CIA decision-makers, and his replacements were the ones who decided to present the intelligence that Bush used to justify the war. Many ex CIA have blogged and written on the subject.

As an example, see http://www.hackworth.com/dt_archive.html. This was a series of articles written by a Pentagon insider before the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It's alarming to see how many of them show that Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and company orchestrated the whole thing, particularly from our current perspective 4-5 years later.
