The ongoing media blackout of Congressman Ron Paul's campaign has become almost comical. It appears, as far as the national media is concerned, "The R3ovlution" will not be televised
Of course, unless the coverage has something to do with the libertarian-leaning candidate secretly meeting with Islamic radicals at a pork palace, or a racial smear campaign stemming from twenty year old newsletters he didn't write that have been brought up many times in his ten Congressional re-elections in district where the local NAACP Chairman says he's being blackballed, or one of what could be several hundred thousand of his supporters throwing a snowball at Sean Hannity. Sorry Sean ... wasn't me. I just sling ink. I think the CIA calls that "Blowback". Figuratively speaking, why reach for the musket when a custard pie would suffice?
The other night's Michigan vote totals for Fred Thompson and Rudy Guliani were almost low enough that Fox could fit those voters in the infamous "forum bus" that wouldn't hold Ron Paul before the New Hampshire primary. The fact remains that after three primary contests, Ron Paul has earned 30,000 more raw votes than both of them.
Many political pundits sigh that none of the candidates are talking like Reagan. But, the Bush Third Term Debate Team regular's sure talk about Reagan a lot:
"I remember when Reagan did this, or when Reagan said that, or back in 1927, I was the first one to teach little Ronnie Reagan how to ride a bicycle and he fell down and hurt his knee- It was I who made Reagan the man he was."
Then, out of nowhere, comes Ron Paul. Who was one of only four in Congress to endorse Ronald Reagan in 1976 ... who has never voted for a tax increase, nor an unbalanced budget, nor participates in the lucrative Congressional Pension Program, and (like Reagan) doesn't believe we should be in the business of policing the world and occupying countries. Ron Paul- who opted out of Medicare and Medicaid as a physician and instead treated many patients of every creed for free ...
Ron Paul- who has advocated strictly limited government, obeying The Constitution, free markets, ending the IRS, sound money, and less "Entangling Alliances" overseas for thirty years: A man with courage who was often the lone, dissenting, vote on several pieces of legislation in his tenure.
After all this Fox pundits say:
"HE'S A KOOK! HE HAS NO CHANCE! HE'S ANTI-AMERICAN!"
When he's included in the debates, Paul is asked questions that are sure to be at the forefront of every Republican voter's mind:
"9/11 Truther's?" and "Electabilty ... Do you have any Sir?"
For some reason, Paul's brilliant response to the "Electability" question was originally edited out of the re-air by Fox News. "We Report, You Decide." They Distort, but they can't hide.
I suppose the next round will be about "the grassy knoll", or "Do you believe that we actually landed on the moon?" "If so, do you believe it's made out of cheese?"
Conversely, Fox pollster, Frank Luntz didn't include "Mr.Chuck" this time again in his latest focus group. Maybe, progress is being made. However, I don't seem to recall any southern accents in the South Carolina focus group though ya'll. Interesting. Ironicly, Ron Paul seems to loose all these debates in the eyes of the Fox/Luntz focus group and win every Fox text poll. Maybe, we should dial those up on the Luntz-O-Meter and see the responses.
In the time in which we live it appears that the "conservative" pundits are in a pickle. They are strapped with a lame duck President and Congress who have some of the lowest combined approval ratings in American history. A Republican President who has increased the size of the federal government by a whopping 30% over the last seven years, and for the first time in American history, openly abandoned the just war theory of Christianity purported by The Founders and invaded and now occupies a country that has done no harm to us.
In a country seeking "change", the cult of personality pundits and The Bush Third Term Debate Team dare not bash nor stray too far from the establishment line of seemingly endless government and endless war. Voters, start your engines.
In fairness, Paul hasn't really fit in that well to this point with the establishment crowd. He came from nowhere with little name recognition and has raised more money in the last quarter than any his rivals from over 160,000 individual contributors ... cutting out the special interests like the drug companies and the military industry. He has a true, grassroots, base with 4,000 meetup groups throughout the country, and he's been married to the same woman for fifty years. By comparison, a radical indeed.
To Fox, and several other "conservative" pundits and personalities, it appears Ron Paul has become an unwelcome stranger in their very strange land ... like the haunting ghosts of Reagan and Goldwater- a constant, painful, reminder to the American people of just how far the entrenched establishment is willing to go to try and preserve what they have already lost.
