An Open Letter to Candidates of Both Parties(Ron Paul-you are excluded)

Dear Candidate,

Both parties seem to be in disaray. Fortunately for you, I am going to tell you one of the reasons why. It's called the politics of change. And I am not talking about changing the direction of the country.

I am talking about changing your stance on things from one month to the next, or one year to the next, or even one debate to the next, and leaving me confused as to what you truly stand for and believe.

Mr. McCain, I am glad you have decided to get tough of illegal immigration. The same for you Mr. Huckabee. But tell me what has changed between last summer and today? DId you have a new insight? Did you have some revelation? Or did you just decide that you cannot get enough votes without at least sounding tough?

I know this is but one example. There are many more. If we can only cut to the chase and tell me what your stance will be as President? You see I do not want to be asked to forgive you for having changed your positions, as I have heard some analysts expect. In fact, I cannot forgive John McCain for McCain-Feingold or McCain Kennedy. One passed...one did not. But the intentions are rather clear. I can never forgive you for those two acts.

Lady and Gentlemen candidates, what I need more than anything else is consisitency. I have to plan my life. I cannot live my life by sitting by the TV or the radio and see which way the wind blows and how that is going to affect my finances and my freedom on a day to day basis. I need to make long term decisions and changing this game we call the American life without the ability to anticipate or plan for it causes paralysis. I certainly do not want laws passed and backdated as we have seen done in the past.

Perhaps if I knew what your principles were based on, I would have a better chance of understanding you. Yet I have been trying, and I honestly cannot figure out how you decide what side of an issue you will be on. Is it trying to help the most people? Trying to help the needy? Or is it what sounds good at the time?

If earning lots of money and financial success are bad, as some candidates have implied, let me know now so I can cut back on how hard I work. If I really have a chance of being bailed out of bad financial choices, tell me now and I can adjust. If being responsible for myself and the outcomes of choices I have made are going to just open my wallet to others, then tell me what I should do to have the wallets of others opened for me.

And if as President, you change your mind on something so critical as Second Amendment Rights, as our current President has done, I must let you know that I shall never accept an apology for that.  Good intentions are never enough to remove my Constitutional RIghts.

Mr. Paul, I hope I did not upset you by leaving you out of this discussion. I know what your policies and positions are based upon. It's called the Constitution. Your consistency has been greatly appreciated.

The politics of change are wearing me out. The candidates change their stance every day. Even if I try, it is hard to keep up. The only real change I hope for is that we have a Constitutional government.

EJ
