For the last month and a half I've had the privilege of publishing articles of many types on Nolan Chart. The Chart founder, Walt Thiessen, is risking time and money to develop this "New Media" outlet where news and views of writers from across the political spectrum can publish. As one of those writers, I would like to see Nolan Chart become a widely read and respected source of information, taking significant market share from propagandized "mainstream media."
With Walt's encouragement, I've opened an "author's lounge" on the web. Think of it as a virtual space where Chart authors can drop in from and discuss things of mutual interest and benefit to our writing.
Participation in The Lounge is purely voluntary, and comes with this caveat: you will be making your email address available to all other Chart authors who sign up. If this concerns you, consider the implications and ask questions before signing on.
I think the benefits, however, are potentially great. There are times when I've wanted to point out an article typo or other faux pas to a fellow author without embarrassing them by commenting publicly. I personally know of authors who have stopped publishing here for one reason or another. I think the Lounge can be a good place to forestall such drastic decisions through mutual encouragement and discussion.
The Lounge is a great place to float an article idea or two - maybe one you're considering writing but you wonder how it might be received, or maybe you'd like some opinions as to which of several possible titles to choose? Possibly you have too many article ideas and too little time to write them. Maybe you've thought of a much needed article, but aren't sure you'd be the best author? Share the idea in the Lounge and find someone with the right expertise for the job. Collaborate on an article with a co-author. There are lots of possibilities.
Within the lounge, you can comment or ask questions openly for all writers to see, or you can find a particular author and email them privately if you like. Just consider which approach would be most appropriate and beneficial for all.
Maybe you're not too hip when it comes to HTML or formatting, or some aspect of promotion? The Columnists Lounge is a great place to ask questions of a sympathetic audience. I've already had the benefit of sharing this sort of thing informally with a few other chart authors, and I think Nolan Chart is better for it.
I hope that the collegial atmosphere of The Nolan Chart Columnists Lounge will become a catalyst to help make Nolan Chart the most professional, sought after, and respected source of political news and commentary on the internet. If you are an author on Nolan Chart, please consider signing up today ! Contact me through the Lounge website:
