While surfing the Ron Paul 'Newsmash' I came across Ron Paul's congressional web site listing many of his speeches and proposals. I wanted to look up some of the things Paul has said to congress while in office. The congressmans 14th District site can be found here. Please read on before you go, your choice.
What I found amazed me, especially the release from 11/2/1998. I've been a supporter for Ron Paul from somewhat early on in the campaign through a Podcast called Free Talk Live. I knew the ideas he was talking about like Personal Liberty and Freedom were something I very much agreed with. I read about the vast interest in people moving to the Free State Project to regain their own portion of Liberty and Personal Freedom. I had a change of view and for once could see the signs in society of how much trouble and corruption the government can cause, and how much trouble we are in. I am not a 'truther' or any of the other names being slugged at the freedom movement supporters.
In the release mentioned above talks about how the US was in a catch 22 with Israel during the mid 80's. He related sticking our nose in the middle east would be "...costly in national security..." Later the end of the article states:
"Of course, if history is our guide, blaming the US will be simply an exercise in window dressing. The problems in the Middle East are not political ones, and therefore cannot be solved by American politicians and their soundbite platitudes. To think a deal signed by these three men will have any meaningfully positive effect is naive.
There are many reasons to believe that peace will never reign in the land of the Jordan River while both sides lay claim to the region. One thing is certain, however, the United States cannot stick its nose into that mess without expecting to get punched from both sides."
If Ron Paul's 'Bad Political Ideas' were stated before 9/11, I think the word 'bad' is referencing the old slang for good.
As a student of life I have a constant urge to dig deeper into the real world, how things work, and why people behave the way they do. I have a video of myself as a child where I am being asked who I should go to for help if I'm in trouble, and if I should talk to strangers. Suggested to me was to go to the police. I said something along the lines of, "But they are strangers too!" I'm not sure how my father felt about that at the time, being he was a police officer himself. It just reminds me now, strangers are strangers, no matter what type of clothing they are wearing. The wolf didn't wear wool for nothing.
History repeats itself. History repeats itself. Would one country learn something already? Mind your own.
