Why don’t we end poverty by printing a million dollars for everyone? If you are thinking the money supply would be so inflated, that a dollar would be almost worthless; we need you to enter the presidential race.
I was watching the Republican debate on ABC when they asked a question about healthcare. Some of the candidates blamed inflation for a portion of the rising costs. I sure was happy to hear they did not endorse more government involvement, since the government already accounts for about 50% of total healthcare spending and seem to be part of the problem, not the solution. Then Ron Paul said, what was creating some of the inflation was; costly foreign interventions that create huge deficits, leading to more debt, more printing of paper money, and more inflation, particularly in sectors where the government has been involved, like health care, education, and housing. You could hear the other candidates snickering at the Libertarian-style Republican. Then Fred Thompson doing his best Giuliani imitation said; that was a new one to him, that printing money creates inflation (at least he did not ask for an apology). Are they ignorant or just indifferent? It is scary either way.
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that after 10 years of the Middle Eastern wars, the spending will about 2.4 trillion dollars, with the vast majority of that being in Iraq. Ron Paul was the only candidate, including the major Democrats to give a no vote about invading Iraq. The cost for a family of 4 to cover this will be $3,200 per year for the next 10 years. I bet if everyone had to write a check and send it in each year to cover these unconstitutional wars, you would see troops being withdrawn faster than you could say, "Vote for Ron Paul".
