It's not that difficult to understand why, with all that Congressman Paul had going for him, he only finished fifth. The American people are not ready for true "change" in this country. They may support Libertarian ideals and vote for them in a Congressionl race, but to actually put someone in the office of PRESIDENT, who is so committed to the cause of liberty and supports the Constitution, who is honest and has integrity, who says what he means and means what he says, is just too much for the common voter to handle. We have all become so comfortable with the status quo that even the word "change" has become an empty promise. No where was that more obvious than the voters in New Hampshire. The "Live Free or Die" slogan has become nothing more than words on a license plate.
One man might not have won over the voters of New Hampshire, but we have to look at the bigger picture.
Before Ron Paul's campaign many people never head the word Libertarian, much less understood what it meant. Get governement out of our lives? End the IRS? Abolish the Dept of Education? Make the American public take care of and be responsible for their own lives? That's a very frightening concept for most people. The child may tell their parent they can't wait to be out of the house and on their own, but how many are secure enough, and confident enough, to acutally do it once they become an adult?
On foreign issues, a majority of Americans still believe we should police the world. In this age of foreign terror, many are terrified at the idea to "bring the boys home", not to interfere with other countries, because they believe if we DON'T show a stong presence, we'll be seen as weak and then THEY will be able to attack us... again.
We have been on the "wrong" track for so many years, it has now become the "right" track, and it will take more than just one 72 year old ob/gyn from Texas to conduct the train, but at least he put it into gear.
The younger generation has become very excited about the political process for the first time since we got the right to vote at 18. Change, true change and Revolution does not happen overnight, nor does success occur at the very first battle, but there is HOPE for AMERICA down the road, in the future, and history will show that when it happens, we will all have Ron Paul to thank!
