If you have ever been in a dysfunctional relationship, chances are you are familiar with this term. I hate to break this to you, but your country is codependent. And if you review the campaign platforms of the majority of candidates in both parties, you will find that their platforms promote a continued pattern of codependence. Individuals who are codependent struggle with healthy relationships. It is no different for countries.
What are some of the symptoms of codependency?
controlling behavior
distrust
perfectionism
avoidance of feelings
caretaking behavior
hypervigilance (heighetened awareness for potential treat/danger)
Does this sound like the foreign policy of the United States towards other nations? Does it sound like the domestic policy of the United States towards its citizens? I certainly believe that it does.
Electing another candidate to the Presidency is going to perpetuate this cycle into our future. If we could just eliminate three of the above six symptoms, our lives and our pocketbooks would be in much better health.
I ask you to review the platforms of the candidates. Do they want to continue exercising control over the rest of the world? Do they want to expand the control over you the individual? Isn’t it amazing that of all the candidates, there is only one promoting more individual freedom? Have we reached the day where freedom doesn’t sell in America?
Ron Paul recently stated that Israel can survive without American support, and we can survive without Israel’s support. Certainly our relationship with Israel has been a codependent one. And it is not healthy for either nation.
Distrust runs rampant in this country. Especially amongst its own citizens. We are scanned, recorded, and searched more than any other people in American history. Yet we are told the threats to us have never been greater. So our rights are taken away. Only one candidate wants to restore our rights. Before 9/11, we were unhappy with the rights we were losing. Today, many of us would rejoice if we could just back to the freedom we had prior to 9/11. My own nation does not trust me. The Patriot Act can be used to lock me away and deny me access to the courts because one person labels me a threat.
That one person is the President. When you look at the candidates, does that power in the hands of the wrong person scare you? It should.
We must end the codependent nature of our country. We must have proper and healthy boundaries, not only for ourselves but for our fellow countries. Without them, we are harming everyone and keeping ourselves from reaching our full potential
Only one candidate wants to change our codependent nation: Ron Paul. The choice is clear.
