 May 30th, 2009 - A Bit of NewsVisit Steorn's Company Website

About a month ago, I told you that Steorn, that small  Irish company with big ideas about "free energy," had accepted me as one of 300 engineers and engineering companies to participate as non-commercial independent licensees in the development of their Orbo technology.

After submitting my personal application some months ago, I received several follow-up emails from Steorn CEO Sean McCarthy, followed (finally!) by an acceptance letter and this confirmation of their receipt of my signed license agreement:

Dear Dann,

We would like to acknowledge receipt of your signed Orbo Technology Non Commercial License Agreement. We expect to receive the majority of Agreements in the next 2/3 weeks and we will then issue details on completing the registration process to enable The 300 to access the SKDB.

Thank you again for your participation in the process,

Yours faithfully,

Sean McCarthy

Curiously enough, in my efforts to keep you informed "blow-by-blow" of the news about my interactions with Steorn, I have discovered that search-engine giant Google apparently does not consider the activities and actions of the company to be newsworthy. While my last article on this topic did appear briefly on the Google News pages, it rather quickly was "discovered" (by a human filtering agent? Or perhaps by some Artificial Intelligence entity?) and moved to Google Blog Search pages.

Could this be a peer-pressure thing? Could it be that the cacophony of opinions disdaining Steorn's claims, voiced by many scientists and engineers and taken up by most media, have persuaded the "powers that be" at Google to relegate what Steorn does to the category of "idle chatter among bloggers?"

I would be delighted if someone "in the know" at Google would weigh-in below this news piece in the comments section, and enlighten us all as to just why Google does not consider Steorn to be "news?"  If Steorn's Orbo technology does eventually become the darling of the world, I imagine Google will scramble to change its stance on how they classify Steorn activities!

(UPDATE: It has been almost a day now, and counting, after this article appeared on-line, it is still classified as "news" and can be found at http://news.google.com. I will make no further update unless I find that Google has re-located the article in their index.)

In the interest of keeping the public aware of the radically beneficial changes Steorn intends to spring on the world, here are excerpts from the latest communication (Subject: Steorn e-Learning Trial) that I have received from them:

Dear Dann,

Thank you for agreeing to take part in the initial trial of  Steorn’s new educational material. We hope you will enjoy the review process and look forward to receiving your input.

The process will begin on Thursday, 18th June when we will publish three e-learning modules to a restricted part of the SKDB. You will be provided with confidential access details on Monday, 15th June.

The modules take the form of multimedia presentations. Although the user will be free to go at his or her own pace, a typical module run-through takes approximately fifteen minutes. The subject matter covered varies widely from the very simple (atomic structure, etc) to the relatively complex.

Three new modules will appear every Thursday until August 20th. In the week following their publication, we would ask you to consider them carefully, both in terms of their content and also their look and feel. You will be able to air your opinions in special discussion threads.

Thank you again for your interest.

Best regards,

-Steorn

I (along with  a few other optimistic reporters) will continue to maintain an open mind as I study the confidential materials in the SKDB that Steorn makes available to me.

I consider it an honor to be counted among "The Steorn 300" and I intend to continue to share my reactions to what I learn as Steorn, bit by bit, allows me to investigate the "inner sanctum" of the knowledge they have discovered!

I have had an Alert on my Gmail account for 3 years and I get messages all the time about Steorn including an alert for this article.  I also received and alert for your last one.

It's good to be open minded but don't get caught up in the paranoia.

Hello Skeptic,

I appreciate your comments and your report of the alerts; and I'm not surprised that you got the alert last time, because (as I mentioned) the previous article DID at first appear "in the news." However, I'm just reporting what I've observed.

You can go to Google news today and search for "Steorn" and you won't find a trace of the previous article; just a suggestion to "check the Google blog search." It IS indexed there.

And so, my curiosity remains; Why did Google classify the last article as "blog" v "news?"

I too have been receiving google news alerts linking to your articles - both this one and the last one - and I must say I'm glad too :o) I read with great interest and I look forward to your next update. I do understand your take on the issue of Steorns news-worthiness too. I am no engineer - a dropout to be honest - but then I am no fool either and it amazes me how the scientific community and the media apparently have no time for this story. By all accounts this will be both a discovery and a story of immense proportions if Orbo proves to be a viable technology but it seems that Steorn are guilty until proven innocent. Why? I just don't know. Has humanity really become so pessimistic? Is it a case of fear? Are people afraid that they might believe in something that turns out to be false? I mean, it's not like Steorn are saying 'I love you' and asking people to marry them :o) lol. I guess time will tell. I, for one, believe all that Sean McCarthy tells us. He is not a liar or a con artist. He has found something amazing :o) Congratulations on your acceptance into the 300. I sincerely hope it proves to be an enlightening experience for you. Have a nice day :o) A. Flood

In response to A. Flood,

Thanks for your kind words, and for following this story with interest. Steorn has, inarguably, played out its story in quite a cagey way for many years now. Their inability/unwillingness to demonstrate a concrete, replicable working model of their Orbo seems rather hard to justify. Perhaps those who simply dismiss them are correct; or, perhaps, just jaded, having seen many claims come and go without making a lasting substantive difference.

Fear of disappointment could surely be an issue affecting many. Will I be disappointed if, after ultimately seeing all the evidence and running my own experiments, there is no final epiphany of "free energy" to be had from Orbo? Of course I will, but not so shaken as to stop investigating possibilities outside of the pale of "convention."

When it comes to the domain of "Science," so called, I am utterly convinced that God still has plenty of as yet undiscovered tricks up His sleeve that will amaze and astound us all.

Hello Dann,

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences as one of the lucky 300. Please keep the faith, I am looking forward to your impressions of the presentation next month.

The sooner we can detach us from the claws of the energy moguls the better. To give you a small example: In Spain where I live the government placed restrictions on the amount of solar & wind energy that can be generated "to protect the market".Now am I the only one who finds it extremely odd that the sustainable energy market in Spain is suffering because of this and is looking at a 25% contraction for their workforce in Solar & Wind because of the government (who is no doubt in bed with big energy) choking the life out of them?

Wishing you all the best,

 AZ

Hi AquariuZ,

Thanks for the news from Spain and for your encouraging words. :)

I couldn't agree with you more that the "moguls" have pretty much used their monopoly position in conjunction with governments as a means of oppressive control. I'm working on another article in which I explore some of those ideas. The working title at the moment is "Energy + AntiGravity = Freedom." Please watch for it to appear here on Nolan Chart.

And, of course, I will be reporting my general sense of the lessons that Steorn provides (within the parameters of my agreements with them,) and so I hope you will continue to watch this space for future developments. :)

Dann,

Just wanted to comment and thank you for your approach to being a part of the Steorn 300.  I am personally VERY sceptical that they have done what they claim, but they certainly deserve to be treated with respect and an open mind in this evaluation process.  Since they plan to change "the world", it's great to have you as a representative who engages them in the professional manner mentioned above, and by default represents those of us who are simply ocupants of that world.

Best Wishes,

Karma

Karma,

Your kind and encouraging words are most welcome today. :)

At this point in time the sense I have is that "skeptics" continue to far outnumber "believers." I find it quite refreshing to find you, as a skeptic, willing to accord Steorn enough respect to at least give the the benefit of the doubt with a "wait and see" attitude.

I have a much harder time understanding the skeptical mindset that says "Can't happen - won't happen - therefore, while plugging my ears and closing my eyes, I will loudly and disdainfully ridicule that which I have, in my infinite wisdom, predetermined to be impossible."

With a preponderance of observers following that parphrased mindset, I at times wonder how humanity could have possibly reached the level of scientific and technical understanding that we presently enjoy!

Thanks again for your comment, and please "stay tuned." :)

Creator, do you think, given that Orbo technology is said to be scalable, that perhaps we might see things like wireless lights? It probably sounds ridiculous but here in Ireland not too many people are aware of the Steorn story and so while I was explaining everything to some friends of mine we were struck by the thought of a cable free world. Bluetooth and wifi have already proved to be a fantastic addition to our world of technology (negating the necessity of cables to transfer information) and if Orbo proves viable and Orbo devices can be made very small our need for cabling to distribute and transfer energy will also be heavily negated. If lights can be made with integrated Orbo devices one wouldn't need any wires going to/from the lights. This applies to all kinds of lights - from home lighting to street lighting to the headlights of our vehicles - and the result of this would be a drastic reduction in our usage of copper wire and cabling of all sorts. Our technological world would become so much 'lighter' because of this and wouldn't that be a fantastic thing? A. Flood

Hello again A. Flood,

BTW, 'creator' please.. (lowercase!) - I'm not in competition with "The Creator," rather I admire His handiwork immensely and hope to (in a very small way) imitate Him. :)

I LOVE YOUR THINKING ON THIS! Yes, wireless lights, a marvelous potential application of Orbo! :) Of course at this time I have no concrete idea, as yet, of the engineering parameters that might constrain this, but with new technologies come new paradigms!

When "horseless carriages" began to apear as internal combustion engines were developed, they often looked just like that - carriages! But people who think (as you do!) outside of the box ultimately began to take advantage of all the possibilities, and streamlined "non-carriage-looking" conveyances began to appear.

Please keep up your great discussions and innovative application thinking; if Orbo proves viable, then a world without copper extension cords can certainly become the "new norm." :)

:o) Thank you creator. Here's to a cable-free future (o: Cable-free cars, cable-free homes, cable-free workplaces, cable-free transport systems, signalling systems .... you name it. I once found myself on the fringes of an engineering group who had entered a prototype into that space-elevator competition they had going on at Ames in California - another thing absolutely screaming out for something like orbo. Space elevators, like everything else, require power but in this case providing the needed juice is especially perplexing. You can't run a current up any tether the elevator is attached to - the common sense is that it may disrupt the Earth's magnetosphere in some unforeseen way - so the only other alternatives are to use batteries which increases the overall weight or a sufficient array of solar panels which also adds to the overall weight. It all adds up to ever more energy requirements so finding a balance (with today's technologies) is tricky to say the least. Orbo might go a long way towards solving this particular conundrum if it proves viable. If not Orbo then certainly the same kind of technology (which we WILL discover in the future) will change our world radically. ANY technology that could allow us to free ourselves from the necessity of cables would give the same result and it would be profound indeed :o)

Thank you, Skeptic, for the "heads-up."

I'm on travel right now but will continue to follow this story. I have received my SKDB credentials, but have not as yet had a chance to look over the available material. I hope to do that as soon as I can, time permitting, and will report my impressions here on Nolan Chart.
