The Polarizing Filter and the Light of Change

Everything old seems to be new again. We need a national dialogue on reality not reality television.

As a boy I was taken by the imagery of WWII and peculiarly enough the Nazi symbolism. Swastikas, the SS logo and death head, even the coolness of the helmet design held appeal. Always drawn to design and imagery I have longed to be in progression, Walt Disney, Frank Lloyd Wright, Stan Getz, and finally Ansel Adams. Perhaps this is the source of my incongruous perspective.

It strikes me this morning that the recent spate of interest in Nazi Germany, films, TV programs, newspaper articles, etc. is setting the mood for the end of the "Nazi Bush era" and marks the beginnings of the euphoria for a future so bright we will all need shades. Perhaps there is a darker side worth examining in that the future also seems to be bringing us the ministry of truth's version of kinder gentler small "m" marxism. Hollywood's two-part 4-hour long movie whitewashing the story of Che Guevara, the recent movie commemorating his motorcycle dairies and the co-opting of Korda's image for the campaign seem to be just the tip of an iceberg.

The entire Obama vision seems built on 20th century imagery starting with early attempts to portray man as warrior-gods. The preoccupation with settings and film set construction, a personal presidential seal, soviet style cold war, and "Guerrillero Heroico" campaign posters, even the quasi official looking "Office of the President Elect" placards show a plan to control and direct the manifestation. Then we have the pseudo religious references, songs (hymns?) and imagery. All that appears to be missing is a modern day Leni Riefenstahl filming the new "Victory of Faith Hope" documentary. Perhaps the inauguration will be the setting for the remake of the Triumph of the Will.

Does this mean that I am anti-Obama or a bigot? As a person who fought family and friends in my youth in opposition to segregation, I could care less about his pigmentation. I am troubled by what little is known about his ideas and philosophy, beyond "Hope". I would like to see some substance. While impressed with the Emerald City, less propaganda and more revelation from the man behind the curtain seems to be due. The country has real problems and the solutions the progressives are proposing seem to be as realistic as the characters in the Wizard of Oz.

Stay tuned boys and girls we haven't looked at the heroic side of the great depression, monumental building projects of the FDR/Stalin era, Camelot II or my least personal favorite, the "new" sixties. Remember sex, drugs and rock n roll begat abortion, aids and disco, how could it get any worse than that.

Dear Bart,

Welcome to the Chart!!  Enjoyed your article

Many have misheard Obama, he was saying "CHAINS  we can believe in" not Change :)    Although I would kind of like to see his birth certificate still, that isn't going to change the fact he will be president.

We will all find out what his "rising O" logo of dawn will bring.   Fortunately I've never been much of a sun-worshipper.   Perhaps I will be pleasantly shocked by a reversal, but I extremely doubt it per what the media has been reporting.

Hi Bart,

Funny, I'm afraid because of how much I do know about Obama's ideas and philosophy and how many Americans agree with him.

Welcome to the Nolan Chart Bart.
