One of the deficiencies in the Nolan Chart is that there have been some truly great articles, but since the NC is structured a bit like a feed site, even very popular or most read ones usually only survive 5 days or so at best, with few exceptions. Of course I missed a lot of articles and I have my own biased personal tastes, but I have been following along each month so I thought I would give this a shot. The list I put together is some of my favorites that I feel are still relevant in January 2009, and are in no particular order since that usually shafts the people at the end of the alphabet anyways.

Of course, anyone can add THEIR favorite article(s) in the comment stream, or write their own article, which is the beauty of this site. Perhaps there are even some ideas to correct the deficiency I pointed out? I've already sent a few ideas to Walt, but I am sure everyone together would have better ideas.

Let me also take a chance to say thank you to fellow columnists for their articles, and to those who debate back with me, and commented or emailed me on my articles, even if it was just to say "Jake, this article really sucked." Although I read plenty of stuff elsewhere, I've even been known to read a few books, the Nolan Chart has served as a kind of cool little cafe as I have made a lot of progress so far with my eco-political awareness and writing skills, and I feel I have truly come a long way since last February when I started my column.

Of course, the biggest thank you of is reserved for Walt, I suppose I can't thank him enough for letting me write here.

[I couldn't resist the chance to create a "2008 Top 10" list of my own articles, but I stuffed that at the end.]

For the purpose of transparency, my other ulterior motive is to displace an article on the death of John Travolta's son as the top article for reads and thumbs up at this site.  On a serious note, while I am sad that Mr. Travolta lost his son, too many American soldiers, Iraqi civilians, Gazans, and Afghani civilians have died too.  My expose on the next wars I predict Obama will start, and an essay on the history of socialism, liberalism, and the rEVOLution have lower chances of beating out Travolta, so here's my best shot.

• Brutus in his column "Death to Caesar".   "The Case for a 100% Gold Standard" 
• Walt Thiessen From The Founder's Desk and Master C from Edison's Light Bulb.  "Debate: Is the Federal Reserve System fraudulent, and should it be reformed or abolished?"  What happens when a die-hard libertarian challenges the rapier wit of a former economics professor and banker?  You get the Nolan Chart version of the Federalist Papers!
• Republicae in NEWS FROM THE REBELLION, a champion of the Constitution, honest money and a very patriotic enemy of the status quo. "The Hyper-Inflationary Trigger" "A Fabian Socialist Dream Come True" "Statism: The Bankrupt Ideology" "An Inconvenient History-War for Southern Independence-Part1" "The Bloodline of Tyranny".  Recommend starting with the Bloodline article.
• Chuck Angier writes The Truth Hurts. I suppose my favorite is his cutting expose on the economics of our tax collecting system. "Why a Fair Tax Won't Happen"
• Doug Eberhardt believes You Can Make A Difference .  Here are the facts he put together on "America's Infrastructure In 2009: Grade "F""
• USAF Vet Dan in his column In Pursuit of Liberty.  Dan became an inspiration to me after he wrote "Why am I running for Congress?" I was very happy to meet him in person after he spoke at Chicago's END THE FED rally with the FED providing an ominous shadow on an otherwise perfectly sunny day at noon.  (Chicago's financial district is very dark at street level due to all the banker's skyscrapers.)
• Dan Steward in his humorous and educational column "With Liberty" wrote  ""Jimmy Justice" : He Videotapes Corrupt NYC Police"
• No Nolan Chart list would be complete without an article from David Nolan's Sage Observations on the Libertarian Party's 2008 performance "Crash & Burn" 
• Andy Wilcoxson writes a very focused column, the Balkan Report. I think this is his best "Radovan Karadzic in Court: Be Careful What You Wish For"
• George Dance in his column Ron Paul and his rEVOLution specializes in informed, well-researched posts on the rEVOLution and third parties.  I will just refer you his top list "GD's Top 100 of 2008"
• Bradley Jansen, a former staffer for Ron Paul, provided some awesome election coverage in "Final Polls and 3rd Party Results".  I think its interesting to compare the results with an earlier piece of research he did here "How Much Is Your Vote Worth?".
• My only issue with -savoy's column Freedom is that I wish he would write more posts :) Try "Barack, what a shame".  Even though its a 2009 article also try "The Battle for your Mind"
• I love Simplulo's one and only article "The Five Boxes of Liberty"
• I really liked the Seneca's column The Matrix of History, although apparently no one else did.  There is like only 1 thumbs up on some of his articles like "The Age of World Wars, Part One" - that was me!
• Try Moonbow's "Ayn Rand, cigarettes, and phone booths" for an old-school libertarian bedtime story
• Melinda Pillsbury-Foster writes a poignant and lovely column Off the Grids to Freedom. This was my favorite "Bailing out the Banks, James Dean, and Freedom."
• The Nolan Chart even had commentary from a presidential candidate, Christine Smith in Seeking Truth.  My favorite: "Where the Fight is Truly the Most Fierce" on the 2nd Amendment.
• Gary Wood writes a constitutionalist column in Hear the Thunder. Try "Embracing the Revolution!"
• From Kipper Matthew's View Point "Never Say Die."  Ok, its from 2009. Sue me.
• Kenn Jacobine brings a much-needed The View from Abroad. I loved "Congress is a Rotten, Stinking Corpse"
• Gene DeNardo blazed onto the NC scene in November in That's What I Thought... with his "Fiat Monetary System Harms Environment"
• Jake Morphonios writes on parenting and liberty in * The Liberty Tree *.  Try "In Memory of All the Dead Fathers"
• Jim Quinn brings a very educated view on freedom and economics in his column The Voice of the Irate, Tireless Minority.  Try "HAS AMERICA JUMPED THE SHARK?"
• rtbohan decided to stop writing here in October, but he has left his column up.  I miss him. Try "Death Watch" or "And When It Is Wrong...." 
• I am hoping to read a lot more from young Air Force serviceman John L. Jones in 2009.  He introduced himself here "Why I Write or: How I Learned to Start Worrying and Write My Column" and has got the basics already well understood here "Ignore the Economic Crisis; Invest in Bling Bling Today!"
• creator keeps the flame of freedom alive in the Truth Realm and follows the rEVOLution closely.  Try this article Ron Paul Revolutionaries, To "The Moon!", written just after Super Tuesday
•  And I will finish the list with a favorite of mine, Jahfre Fire Eater's It's All Related.  Try Ron Paul on Patriotism or Enjoy the Deflation....

2. The Money Matrix - How the FED Works (PART 6/15) (A must-read, this article's content is important as I haven't seen its information compactly put together in one place)
3. Bernanke's Great Lie - The "Gold Standard" and the Great Depression (PART 2/2)
4. Police State Stomps on Iraq Veteran's Face as McBama Sanctions Attack on Freedom of Speech: The Story of the Hempstead 15 (Part 1/3)
5.  Police State Invades Mayor's Home & Kills His Dogs (UPDATED)
6. A Salute to Malalai Joya - Afghanistan's Tom Paine and Response to Disgruntled Reader on "Malalai Joya" Article
7. My Father's Vietnam is My Iraq - Disturbing Parallels This is my favorite article since I learned so much by writing it.
