While GM claims they are only asking for a loan, just remember from whom they are asking to borrow. It would be you and me along with the value of the dollar.

Dear Amy, You made the right choice when you put your confidence in General Motors, and we appreciate your past support. I want to assure you that we are making our best vehicles ever, and we have exciting plans for the future. But we need your help now. Simply put, we need you to join us to let Congress know that a bridge loan to help U.S. automakers also helps strengthen the U.S. economy and preserve millions of American jobs. Despite what you may be hearing, we are not asking Congress for a bailout but rather a loan that will be repaid. The U.S. economy is at a crossroads due to the worldwide credit crisis, and all Americans are feeling the effects of the worst economic downturn in 75 years. Despite our successful efforts to restructure, reduce costs and enhance liquidity, U.S. auto sales rely on access to credit, which is all but frozen through traditional channels. The consequences of the domestic auto industry collapsing would far exceed the $25 billion loan needed to bridge the current crisis. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research: ? One in 10 American jobs depends on U.S. automakers ? Nearly 3 million jobs are at immediate risk ? U.S. personal income could be reduced by $150 billion ? The tax revenue lost over 3 years would be more than $156 billion Discussions are now underway in Washington, D.C., concerning loans to support U.S. carmakers. I am asking for your support in this vital effort by contacting your state representatives. Please take a few minutes to go to RETRACTED, where we have made it easy for you to contact your U.S. senators and representatives. Just click on the "I'm a Concerned American" link under the "Mobilize Now" section, and enter your name and ZIP code to send a personalized e-mail stating your support for the U.S. automotive industry. Let me assure you that General Motors has made dramatic improvements over the last 10 years. In fact, we are leading the industry with award-winning vehicles like the Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac CTS, Buick Enclave, Pontiac G8, GMC Acadia, Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, Saturn AURA and more. We offer 18 models with an EPA estimated 30 MPG highway or better ? more than Toyota or Honda. GM has 6 hybrids in market and 3 more by mid-2009. GM has closed the quality gap with the imports, and today we are putting our best quality vehicles on the road. Please share this information with friends and family using the link on the site. Thank you for helping keep our economy viable. Sincerely, ![]() Troy Clarke | ||
I would encourage everyone here to contact Congress and tell them no more socialism. No more welfare for the rich. No more raping the dollar.

This letter is just really messed up on so many levels. In one breath they say that they are going broke, but in the next they say they are leading the industry? Huh? Hey why not just ask the person to invest in GM stock rather than beg the government for a "loan"?

I wish people would wake up to the evils of our fiat money and the evils of the Federal Reserve

Dear R3volt,
I just looked up the phrase "when will people wake up" in my handy Master C translation guide, and you know what it said:
... meaning: "I wish people believed the things I tell them and thought the way I do about issues that I care about, but they don't because my way of thinking is so WRONG, OUTDATED, SELFISH, ONE-SIDED, UNCOMPROMISING, UNDESIRABLE, has no COMPASSION, no CONTEMPORARY FOUNDATION, is ANTI-GOVERNMENT, ANTI-FIAT MONEY, ANTI-TOLERANCE for opposing views, and it even SMELLS BAD!"
Geeeez, sorry R3volt. I guess I can see why nobody wants to wake up for your views now.

Simply saying "No it's not!" is neither a valid nor logical argument. Here is support for my argument on why supporting the Big 3 through monetary inflation is bad. First off this was tried 20 years ago with Chrysler. And very little has changed other than a larger repeat. Secondly, keep in mind the government does not make anything, it can only reallocate resources. It can only steal resources from one, with the best of intentions of course, and then disperse those resources to someone else who they feel is most deserving. Right now the Big 3 is responsible for blowing these companies away. Also keep in mind that corporations are now legally equal to individuals in the eye’s of our government. It is not an individual’s fault of failure, but the companies themselves. The government is now openly considering bailing out corporations at the cost of the individuals. I did nothing to destroy these companies, which is indeed a selfish argument at first glance. My viewpoint, rather, is of not punishing one group for another group's indiscretions. This point-of-view is a service to everyone. The privatization of profits though good decisions should also allow for privatizing of losses. Our government wishes to share loses of these corporations with the individuals while those same individuals never shared in the profits. Letting these companies figure out their own problems would elevate the better business models and also allow for the elimination of the poor business models. An economic Darwinism if you will.Right now our government is getting in the way of economic evolution and is trying to guess who the best business species should be. It is doing this at the cost of the dollar which touches us all. The government is not smart enough to anticipate what needs to be done economically because the government is often only remembering its big donors first. This is morally wrong and is destroying our country. The government can steal resources by taxation and they can steal by inflation. Inflation is simply an increase in the money supply. That increase in money supply will translate to increase in consumer prices. Through inflation the value of my dollar goes down; I pay the price of government induced inflation. Our government has no money and they are spending more than the amount of money they have. The Federal Reserve is like a mortgage broker has given our government the United States as a home and our government has spent over what the US is even worth, but the bank is still allowing the government to refinance. Thankfully this mortgage was bundled and sold to Asia and Japan though, so inflation was held somewhat in check. This refinancing is all done through the Federal Reserve, the mortgage broker from hell, with our dollar and the printing press. This is the destroyer of our economic freedom and value of the dollar. This is the mechanism that allows for governments to do things that they have no resources for. It allows for political reelection as these politicians that “do something” without having to raise your already confiscated income tax can appear to be a short-term economic hero. Can you tell me where the government getting the money and who is begging for it right now? If the printing press is the fix the problems of our economy, they should fix everyone’s problem with it. In the past six months alone, the government could have simply printed out everyone's federal income tax. If printing money to help out the Big 3 would work to help save our economy, wouldn’t bailing out the driver of the economy be the best thing the government can do. Bail the consumer/tax payer out of their income taxes. If the government can print what it wants, then give it to everyone. Point out how it is morally right to steal from one and give it to another. Point out in history where a fiat currency has worked for longer than 37 years (the longest time a fiat currency has lasted in our country) and was finally able to fix the problems it created in the first place through inflation. Try supporting your arguments against me. All I can see from you is name calling and a childish retreat to the argument of “Nu-uh!” as your support. Cleary you are smarter than that as I remember some great grammatical and usage suggestions you gave me a few articles ago. In fact, while you attempt to support your argument, I could sure use a proof read. Compassion is letting people keep the fruits of their labors. My contemporary foundation is based on the tradition of liberty and freedom our founders built into the Constitution. This very foundation is the one that forbids a central bank to take from one and give to another. It also does not allow for a worthless currency.
