KAM SAM, PAKISTAN - The AP reports the latest Predator drone attack killed at least 13 in a bombing run that destroyed an alleged Taliban commander’s home in the FATA tribal region. There have been at least 18 American missile strikes or attacks into Pakistan since August despite the Pakistan’s government’s pleas to cease attacking. This was the first attack since General David Petraeus assumed command of the Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan Global Wars of Terror, which fittingly occurred on Halloween.
Pakistan's Information Minister, Sherry Rehman, said late Friday that such "unilateral actions" by Washington on Pakistan's soil are a "self-defeating strategy." She said such attacks damage the global efforts to combat terrorism and urged the U.S. to halt them. Pakistan’s army chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, has repeatedly said only his country had the right to carry out such attacks on suspected militant targets on its soil.
Again, this war and military strikes into Pakistan are all in direct violation of the Constitution of the United States, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 which clearly states that Congress must declare war, which has not been done since Pearl Harbor. President-elect Obama has stated that winning the War of Terror in Afghanistan and Pakistan will be a top priority for his term, and has not objected to the repeated attacks on Pakistani soil.
"The greatest threat to that security lies in the tribal regions of Pakistan, where terrorists train and insurgents strike into Afghanistan. We cannot tolerate a terrorist sanctuary, and as President, I won’t. We need a stronger and sustained partnership between Afghanistan, Pakistan and NATO to secure the border, to take out terrorist camps, and to crack down on cross-border insurgents. We need more troops, more helicopters, more satellites, more Predator drones in the Afghan border region. And we must make it clear that if Pakistan cannot or will not act, we will take out high-level terrorist targets like bin Laden if we have them in our sights." – President-elect Obama
However, Pakistan is already attacking its own people! As a matter of fact, a day before the latest Predator attack, the UK’s Times Online reported Pakistani helicopters and jets killed 17 "suspected insurgents" in Taliban strongholds in Pakistan. The Pakistani army claims to have killed 1,500 insurgents in the past three months.
So perhaps someone just forgot to tell the drones? One would also think that the US might have some respect for national sovereignty and just tell Pakistan where to attack. It is also academically interesting that the United States is showing no interest in taking any prisoners and putting them on trial for whatever terrorist acts they have committed. We are stamping them out like so many pesky ants, not realizing that for every one killed, two more rise up to take their place.
The picture shown is of Obama and Petraeus smiling and flying together over Iraq. I’ve made my stance clear on Obama here "Utter Chaos in Afghanistan and Pakistan as Barack Obama Sanctions Preemptive War", and as far as Petraeus goes, I have already challenged him to a boxing match or cage-fight here "The Gauntlet is Thrown - The Champion of the Constitution vs. David Petraeus". Someone needs to try to make these people obey their oaths to the Constitution.
A glance at a map satisfies my needs for a motive. Besides to continue the unending Wars of Terror, it is easy to figure out the plans for future wars. Redeploy more troops to Afghanistan so that Iran is flanked by two armies and blockaded by the US navy. Secure land in (or invade?) Pakistan for an oil pipeline to move the massive Caspian oil and perhaps gas from the central Asian friendly dictatorships through Afghanistan to the Indian Ocean. Attack Iran and take its oil if needed.
A triple D attack (dollar/derivatives/debt) crisis or a change in heart by President-elect Obama may be the only real hopes of stopping the wars. Congress is basically a rubber-stamp now, and the Supreme Court is asleep. Of course one last check remains. As George Washington once said, the Constitution’s only true keepers are We the People.

Many of the Prophecies of Ferdinand Lips from 2005 are becoming true. "Right now [the FED] is creating the biggest housing bubble in history. This may lead to economic collapse. I expect that a revolution will one day take place against the Fed. It must be abolished. After all, its founders were not that intelligent but rather stupid men. Or they were devils. It is a tragedy. Not only that: It is the biggest tragedy in world history, even worse than wars. Yes, worse than wars. It made most people poor. It damaged America. It caused wars and then helped to finance them."

Good article Jake! Let's hope Obama was just puffing his chest to show he was as tough as the opposition[McCain], and get elected, rather than expressing his willingness to carry on the Bush=Cheney tradition of random massacre.

Jake,
I actually agreed with your subheading about the War on Terror, that terror is a tactic, etc. But, your article was then all about incursions into Pakistan which is another issue altogether.
The US is just trying to keep the borders protected so that there isn't as much insurgency from Pakistan. I would actually be happier if we just GOT THE HELL OUT OF THE WHOLE AREA ~ Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan ~ and went after any groups who attacked the US. As it is, the Bush policy of preemption is something I vigorously disagree with, and it's supported and justified ~ as you said in your early remarks ~ by the FALSE claim of a war on terror.

Dear gene - I suppose its OK to have "audacious hopes" for Obama, but its another thing to be realistic. Time will tell I suppose! Even if he's not in power, just remember all President-elect Obama needs to do is open his mouth and say he does not support these attacks - I haven't been able to find such a statement.
Dear MC - what we agree?? I think you missed by my perhaps too subtle point about terrorism and the incursions. Sure, we Americans sitting at home aren't terrorized by the latest drone attack, but what about the entire village that finds that a few homes were vaporized by a flying robot?
I would not be surprised if all the men in the village now show up to fight us or their government. That makes them the new "terrorists" right? Doesn't anyone else notice that we have killed far, far too many people that "al-Qaeda" could have possibly ever had?
Thanks for writing back!
Jake
