Mr. Robert Timsah writes, "I love the idea". Thanks for sharking but your love is immaterial. When you campaign for Ron Paul, do you tell potential voters that they should vote for Ron Paul because you love him and, if so, are you surprised to have lost the election? I'm sure you love your dog or, forbid it Almighty God your cat, while I and others may detest the loathsome beast. Not-with-standing, if it is a good dog or cat I would respect you for showing me why and defending the beast and in time, I might perhaps develop my own affection for and loyalty to the beast (or, lets be politically correct, the bitch).
The work of this column is to persuade a seminal minority to unite in formation of the CSP because it is a good idea, is in fact the best idea on the political horizon, is in fact the only game in town, is in fact, in Lincoln's term, the last best hope of man on earth. This is the hallowed ground of patriots- not a romper room for yuppies to chose their favorite tubee.
Mr. Timsah then educates me with the intelligence that he feels that a better idea, not-with-standing electoral route in 2008, is for Ron Paul to run again as a Republican in 2012. We have no argument here, though if you read between the lines of political rhetoric, the plan seems to be for Rand Paul to run in 2012. (You read it here first). Dr. Paul will, in this case, be running against the CSP presidential candidate and as I believe in a fair fight I'd like to give Dr. Paul a political tip. Republicans Nixon and Regan did not win their party nominations and landslide elections by marching on Washington and congratulating constitutents who were hostile to the party. They won nomination, in large part, as a result of tireless stumping for Republican candidates for federal, state and even local office in elections leading up to the Presidential convention. Perhaps demonstration of loyalty to the Party would produce loyalty from the Party in 2012- though it is no longer clear what the Republican Party or its candidates is loyal to.
This was not always the case. The Republican Party began in the 1860s as a new party and became established as a national party when Lincoln became its Presidential candidate. It became, and remained until the election of Bush Sr., the Party of Lincoln but remained,as well, the Party of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Jackson, because Lincoln's understanding of liberal, constitutional democracy encompassed the understanding of his predecessors.
Republican repudiation of Lincoln, and his forbears, necessitates a new party, as the moral, spiritual, intellectual and political bankruptcy of the Democrat Party necessitated a new political party in the 1860s. The Common Sense Party is that new party, the new Party of Lincoln and his forbears (and of Eisenhower, Nixon and Regan I might add). In debate, Dr. Paul will be required to explain why, under his leadership, the new Republican Party which was once the Party of Lincoln is now the party of the repudiation of Lincoln (and of Regan and Nixon I might add. Blind loyalty is not to be tolerated but neither is reckless repudiation, based on vague and indefensible rumor and hearsay, of the great heroes of our republic who governed by the authority of landslide elections- the informed, consent of the governed.)
The CSP candidate will not be an ignorant media buffoon (need I name names) reading lunatic and entrapping questions from a script in a mock debate. No flip answer to debate challenges from the CSP candidate will prevail. So I urge Doctor Paul to read up on Lincoln so we can have a fair fight. As champion of the Constitution I'd urge Dr. Paul to read the 6th Amendment and allow Lincoln himself to confront his accusers. It seems to me that Lincoln acquits himself rather well in his speeches and addresses. As for 6th Amendment witnesses in his defense, no compulsion is necessary. Lincoln's rightness and righteousness compels them. Witnesses in Lincoln's defense are formidable and innumerable. Emerson, Whitman, Greeley, T. Roosevelt, Ida Tarabell, Helen Nicolai, Dorothy Thompson, Sinclaire Lewis and Regan come to mind off the top of my head.
Mr. Timsah also writes that the Iraq War will not be an issue in 2012. That is probably true but it is hard for me to imagine either Mr. Obama or Mr. McCain surviving in office without some war or other to keep the people whipped up in an emotional frenzy that deflects their attention from further dissolution of the United States of America under the new administration. We don't know yet what will be the war of choice and we do not need to know because the Common Sense Party is not an issue driven party. Issues are manufactured by foreign and domestic enemies of the United States and they are not going to run the Common Sense Party. The CSP is driven by principles and will address events as they arise in obedience to those principles. The CSP will not appeal to the electorate for a blank check but rather for their consent to government by a finite and well defined body of principles.
So the great task that is now before us, is to define those principles, forge them in the furnace of political debate into razor sharp political swords behind which we can unite- to become or support representatives who are competent and inclined to wield these political swords- and to labor with our last full measure of devotion, no matter the price, to get them elected to local, state and federal office. No alternative is acceptable.
Now, this column begins that task with a proposal for a Financial Recovery Act. I have not been to the mountain and returned with doctrine etched in stone. I have merely risen to address you, the parliament of the government in exile, to propose a course of action for your deliberation and debate. If Dr. Paul would like to adopt this provision then I will be disposed to be a Ron Paul supporter.
The proposed CSP Financial Recovery Act which is presented here implies, if you read between the lines, challenges to Republican candidate Paul's implied principles in the 2008 campaign. Specifically, it implies need for exercise of executive authority and that the Federal Government does have legitimate duties and authorities and power to tax to finance those duties. Champions of the Constitution will have no argument with this, nor will anyone with a lick of common sense. I cannot believe that there exists a single American who is prepared, for example, to place the defense of America against armed extra national forces, like those of the UN, in the hands of a bankrupt government with a castrated Command in Chief.
So I propose, for debate and improvement if such exists, a system of taxation to minimize bureaucracy and bureaucratic intrusion on the 4th Amendment right to security in our persons, papers including financial papers like pay checks, and effects, and that distributes the tax burden fairly and constitutionally among the people. Your comments and challenges, including Dr. Paul's, will be most welcome.
With luck, next week's column will be devoted to confronting challenges to the proposed financial recovery act which follows. Otherwise, I'd like to continue by placing in the record for future reference, an essay by a great American patriot named Dorothy Thompson, which addresses issues of concern to a minority party confronting entrenched, fascist usurpation of our American government. Here's the proposed, "Financial Recovery Act".
