With Walt's blessing, I created a Facebook group page for anyone to join up at if they want. For those who do not know, Facebook is used primarily as a way for friends to keep in touch, sending messages, sharing photos, links, videos, and lots more. You control your group of friends and only people on that list have access to view your webpage. To find friends, typically people use a 'friend finder' tool to search for and invite people from your personal email listings, whether it be Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, GMail, Comcast, or MSN. Facebook recently hit 100,000,000 individual user accounts, and is used globally.
To join, if you have a Facebook account already, just enter "nolan chart" in the search bar and it will show up. Or try this URL. If you do not have a Facebook account, you can create one by going to their web page. Or you can send me an email, and I will send you an invite when I have a chance. [Reach the Author Here!]
I explained my reasoning for creating this web page in "Plea for a Nolan Chart Facebook Account." Since Facebook's audience is typically younger Americans, I think the timing for the creation of the page at the moment in time where just about everyone in the US is aware of the bailout, the upcoming Presidential election, and the fact that Obama and McCain both voted for the latest bailout in the Senate. If younger Americans realize what the bill is all about, they may realize that McBama may not be as capable to lead the country as they may have presumed and has turned a deaf ear to the voice of We the People.
It will be interesting to see if the group takes off or not, but its main intent is just to act as another portal to increase readership and hopefully expand our columnist base as well. Of course, the fastest way to grow in members is for everyone to send to their personal Facebook Friends list, which I have already done.
On the group page I posted a "Philosophy of Liberty" video on what defines the basic precepts of a libertarian (in my opinion), and a couple links to the site describing what the Nolan Chart actually is, and the site's survey. Below is a copy of the group statement I put up on the page:
www.NolanChart.com was founded in August 2007. The site provides a forum for open debate on any and all parts of the political spectrum. It is an open site where anyone can join and contribute articles for free, or join in a revenue sharing plan if desired. Comment fields are provided in all articles for any reader to comment.
Founder Walt Thiessen founded the Nolan Chart since he was dismayed by the lack of respect demonstrated by the mainstream media towards libertarian views. For the most part, libertarian ideas are not presented as being part of the public discussion of issues. If they are even mentioned at all, the reference is usually made in a disparaging way, and the merits of the ideas are discounted.
Since libertarian ideas have already been successfully affecting the public discussion in subtle, unnoticed ways, this situation is not tolerable. Most people in this country would be hard pressed to simply identify a libertarian idea, yet many are unwittingly expressing them in their daily discourse.
Since libertarians are opposed to initiating force, we are also unwilling to force our way onto the public stage. www.nolanchart.com is a way to provide a venue in which libertarian ideas can appear on equal footing with conservative, liberal, statist, and even moderate (centrist) ideas. Walt's expectation is that this will help elevate libertarian thinking to a prominent place in American politics that it so richly deserves. With any luck, instead of trying to change the major media, this site will (hopefully) become a part of the major media!
In its first year our site has reached 3.5 million reads. Today, we're one of the 30,000 most visited websites in the United States of all kinds, and we're in the top 100 political websites in America.
Please feel free to stop by and view, comment on, or create any of the site's articles.
If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns let me know. Also, please understand that I have created this page by myself, and although it has Walt's blessing, it does not belong to or have any legal or official affiliation with Nolan Chart LLC. (Walt let me know if I did not phrase that right, but I think everyone gets my drift.)
Furthermore, I do not revenue share as a columnist, although I do not think there is anything wrong with that. All of my writings and work is unpaid, although I am open to discussing a contract at a certain number of ounces of silver per hour :)
That said, I believe we all are now living in interesting times. I hope everyone has prepared themselves and their families for whatever will come our way in the future. If the Revolution can succeed, I believe the longer-term future is very bright indeed.
Update 10/27: When I started the group I was already aware, but in case you are a bit nieve, it is entirely possible that if the police state evolves further Facebook group members, their identities, etc, etc could all be tracked. I encourage you to not be scared though, and if you are, learn how to block your IP address. As for me, I assure you I fear not.
It is my good fortune to be,
