Instead of making a traditional concession speech, Ron Paul made what sounded like, and was, a victory speech. He did not, like President Bush, declare "Mission Accomplished, because he realizes that there is still hard work ahead. But he gloried in fighting the opening, successful, campaign of the new revolution of liberty. And he ended the speech by reminding his followers that nothing can stop a revolution whose time has come.(www.justin.tv/ronpaul/2008)
He thanked those who had supported his drive for the presidential nomination, and he pointed out that the support from the grass roots surprised even him, and that the level of success achieved this years was not due to him personally but to the support for the idea of liberty. He also gave a better exposition on the meaning of libertarianism than I have heard from any member or candidate of the Libertarian party. He pointed out the way in which conservatives tend to support economic freedom and to restrict social liberty, while liberals tend to want to regulate economic freedom and support social freedom. He also noted that while both, to some extent, support freedom of choice, both also want the government to rescue when they make the wrong choice.
This year's campaign will continue, with the freedom rally in St. Paul the final stage. Paul hopes to have a large turnout, possibly as large or larger than the number of declegates and alternates to the Republican National convention to remind the party, the media and the public that there is a large and growing liberty movement in the country.
After the end of this year's campaign the momentum must not be lost, although the emphasis and activity will be at the grass roots level rather than on the national stage. Paul will continue to do his part in supporting the election of more libertay oriented members of congress and providing an information network (www.campaignforliberty.com) and asking the precinct committeemen and the meetup groups from his campaign to continue working. Another source for locating and cooperating with libertarians in your area is Freedom Fortress (www.restoretherepublic.com)
Ron Paul has given great leadership during his presidential campaign and brought a movement into being. Although he has ended this year's campaign for the presidency, he has given us a pledge that he will do his part for the revolution in the future. It is up to his supporters to build on the momentum and increase it. Victory is not in sight, but it is closer. We have put a lot of trust in Representative Paul and it has not been misplaced. Now we must trust ourselves to complete the work
