The ex-Governor of Minnesota, ex-Navy Seal, surfer resident from the Mexican Baha, former pro-wrestler and sports announcer, actor and libertarian-with-a-lowercase-L returns from his 100% solar-powered home to promote his new book. He provocatively charges that America is a Nation of Lemmings following the Donkeys and Elephants, claiming Our Constitution and Liberties are being Attacked. As no other Lemming here at the Chart has taken the story yet, I’ve decided to welcome his fiscally-conservative, socially liberal ideas to the Nolan Chart and publish a source list for those interesting in learning more. So, which way to the Cliff?
Ventura didn’t make it quite through the interviews without a few gaffes – stating Ron Paul has dropped out of the Presidential race (Al-Jazeera link) although he is campaigning right now in Pennsylvania, a beneficial reference to Che Guevara, the Libertarian Party as a bunch of "anarchists" (though I must say Walt, my readers sometimes confuse my Nolan Chart rating of Libertarian viewpoint to mean I am card-carrying Libertarian, which no thank you, I am not), mistakens the year the Great Wall of China first fell to invaders, etc.
However, I will overlook all these oversights for the moment as I am so elated at having another Voice for Freedom join the Revolution! The Ron Paul gaffe is forgiven as Ventura states "Certainly I would probably align myself mostly with him if he were still running." However, I surmise Ventura is well aware that Paul's campaign hasn't ended, but has quite high odds against him. Possibly even associating with Paul in the MSM would equal the kiss of death for his book and future interviews?? Plus Ventura has shown the mental capacity to educate himself and question his own views, a rare quality these days. Plus his dream is to one day surf a big wave with Laird Hamilton, which I also share.
LEMMINGS WAKE UP!! Skip the Cliffs, and go for a Surf instead!

In 1998, while I was running for Congress (as a "Big-L") Libertarian and he was running for Governor, Jesse Ventura told me (in a private moment in the halls of Armstrong High School) that "He was really a libertarian, but only running as a Reform Party Candidate for the ballot status." After winning the election, he surrounded himself with Liberal Democrats, and then proceeded to govern as a Liberal Democrat.
While I applaud many of his positions (especially his on-target observations about a border fence) I implore readers of nolanchart.com to look into Jesse Ventura's record and judge for yourself. Do not be fooled by his rhetoric into thinking that he would be an advocate for freedom. Jesse Ventura is every bit as much a statist as Paul Wellstone or Arne Carlson.
Sincerely,
Kevin Houston

I don't know if I want Jesse to be president or not. But I would like to see him beat the hell out of Sean Hannity. :-)

If only Jesse would eliminate his ego and join the Ron Paul camp. But alas he has a vision in his own head of himself as the president of the great U.S.A. just like the rest of them.
Damn the original sin!
I wonder how many of you know what a unique treat and a gift Ron Paul is? Probably we will not see another like him in our lifetime.

Jesse Ventura isn't a 'statist'. What he was, was a sellout. Not that I'm casting stones: I've seen many a wannabe politician pass through the LP up here in Canada, in the 80s and early 90s; most of them were libertarians who, if they'd been elected, would have sold out just as quickly. Politicians who don't sell out (like, say, Mike Gravel) don't stay in office long.
What we need are politicians with the ability to both keep their integrity and consistently get re-elected. . Unfortunately, thinking of it that way, I have to agree with the last commenter: Ron Paul really is one-of-a-kind in that respect.

Jesse Ventura cares about Jesse Ventura only. All of this great anti-corruption talk? ALL blow and no go. He might believe some of what he says, but keep in mind sheeple, HE'S SELLING HIS BOOK! This article is ridiculously Jesse worship. He's a SHOWMAN not a SHAMAN.

I saw the interview with Blitzer. Ventura says the right things, but I think he gets annoyed by the work of politics. It's pretty discouraging getting elected and then finding out that what you believe in won't happen unless you suck up to the enemy. The most likely Republican and Democratic nominees for president have reputations for dealing.
I think Ventura will have a better chance of running for the Senate. He's defeated the Republican before in the governor race.
Unless someone can prove to me otherwise, the next president will be one of three current U.S. Senators--a Republican or a Democrat.

YOUR SENSATIONAL HEADLINE IS A BIG FAT LIE! To me, that makes you unreliable and a person that embellishes the truth. Why should I believe your silly "Jesse Ventura is god" article?
If JV had any guts or or sense of true duty, he would have been speaking up for Ron Paul wayy before now. You forgive him for saying that Ron Paul dropped out of the race? THat tells me that the guy is completely out of touch and has never even listened to Ron Paul. RP has said many many times over in various speeches YouTube videos and interviews that he will stay in the race.
He's just another Judge Anthony Napolitano, talk the talk, but won't walk the walk. We have our VOLUNTEER soldiers in Iraq getting killed and maimed or coming home to fractured family lives and you guys want to give these blabber mouths a pass because they have a commitment/contract to a lying corporate media propoganda machine? Wake up!
And YOU have the audacity to call people lemmings. Pffft.....

Dear David in Portland,
Thank you for a lovely response absolutely dripping in venom. I decided to reply.
"YOUR SENSATIONAL HEADLINE IS A BIG FAT LIE! To me, that makes you unreliable and a person that embellishes the truth. Why should I believe your silly "Jesse Ventura is god" article?"
It seems my ploy with the title did work, and a bunch of people have decided to read it. However, several of Mr. Ventura's ideas do indeed echo the Ron Paul platform. His other ideas are interesting even if you don't agree with them. Frankly speaking, I don't believe Jesse Ventura or Ron Paul are "gods." I just happen to like some of their ideas, such as ending America's wars. And I don't much care what you believe or think, you can make up your own mind.
"You forgive him for saying that Ron Paul dropped out of the race? THat tells me that the guy is completely out of touch and has never even listened to Ron Paul. RP has said many many times over in various speeches YouTube videos and interviews that he will stay in the race."
Perhaps if I was god I could forgive him, eh? Actually my entire article is sarcastic, but its OK you didn't notice. I wrote the article to elicit thoughts and put Ventura's ideas out there to think about, not because I myself have fallen for them. I think perhaps if you listen to Ventura's commentary, you will realize his facts definitely aren't straight (he didnt only get the date for failurel of the Great Wall of China wrong, he missed it by more than a millenium!), and if you think Ventura evenly divides his time between surfing, contemplating his navel on a beach, and watching YouTube movies you may be sorely mistaken.
And speaking of YouTube movies, I highly recommend you watch THE ESOTERIC AGENDA. After you watch it, please educate me further.

Sorry, I confess ignorance at who that judge is, I seriously have no idea, and its not even worth a google to me. I absolutely deplore the war and all the people dying. And at this point, i will listen to any "blabbermouth" who is against the war, whether its Mr. Ventura or yourself. I refer you to my other articles on this site that are mostly anti-war.
"And YOU have the audacity to call people lemmings. Pffft....."
Oh, yes I did. How audacious. And check out my byline "A Lemming Reports." Peace dude, this Lemming is going to go catch a wave somewhere.
PS Pardon me for expressing myself, perhaps you would like to piss away at my freedom of expression again someday? I am writing here to get my synapses firing a bit more and perhaps a few others, including my friends.
No, seriously, thank you for your contribution and taking the time to write back.

Jesse is the type of troofer idiot used to make the whole campaign look bad. If you have questions about 9-11 just consult the "Popular Mechanics" magazine article about it. It pretty clearly explains every crackpot theory about 9-11 being a conspiracy. (btw, there is no way to discretly plant explosives in the towers since their design was with the supporting steel columns in the exterior walls. also jet fuel does burn hot enough to plasticize steel, making it lose 90% of it's strength which is enough to cause it to fail)

Pfft.As if being "a bunch of anarchists" is a bad thing.Remember, Jesse, "anarchy" simply means (literally, from Latin) "No Rulers."Anarchy is a philosphy, not another word for lawlessness or mayhem. No rulers, no wars.

Unfortunately, anarchy didn't earn its connotation with "chaos" for nothing. Think about it. If you were to place a political spectrum in the shape of a sphere, Anarchy's right on the pole where both socialism and libertarianism converge. On the other pole, you have statism. We'll put statism on the south pole.
Literally "no rulers" means no authority contracts. And that means the very theory of anarcho-capitalism is thrown out the window.
Radical libertarians that endorse anarchy, consider if everyone had individual rights, there's essentially no classes cause not one group can claim a majority.
The problem here lies in that if everyone is guaranteed the same equal rights without any rules or contracts with an authority, then positive rights (something libertarianism in general is very opposed to) takes complete effect.
How do you sidestep this issue? Through minarchism. The most minimal, public support for positive rights, ones that guarantee people may transmute their fruits of labor into a quasi-ownership over such natural resources that otherwise everyone naturally has a right to- air, land, and water.
Otherwise pure anarchism, is in fact, something we should be opposed to. To use the globe metaphor again, if you keep going northeast, sooner or later you'll end up in the southwest. At least in theory.

Great article Jake!
Digital Bob: You asked for a proof that someone other than one of the 3 senators can be the next president. Jake provided that proof with his final link at the end of his article: [link edited for length].
