Ron Paul, John McCain, MSNBC Debate: Explained

What the heck was Ron Paul talking about?
by John Armstrong
(libertarian)

That Ron Paul, he's something else. Rudy said that he and Mitt had talked backstage about which questions they were going to ask each other beforehand. I guess that kooky ole 10-time Congressman from that insignificant little state called Texas was probably sitting all by his lonesome reading some boring economics papers during that quid pro quo conversation.

For the last eight years Texans have had to listen to the national and international media imply that they, and all Americans for that matter, are stupid by Presidential association. Granted, Ron Paul may be the only candidate less eloquent that GWB, and Bush's MBA from Harvard is just about as impressive as Paul's MD from Duke on paper, but that's about where the comparisons end in the intelligence horse race. When Texans vote after Super Tuesday, they may want to consider putting someone in office to remind the world that America didn't become the world's lone Superpower by bombs alone.

Since Democrats have been seen as the "intellectual elites" for so long, perhaps Ron Paul's intelligence is hindering his progress within the party he has served for 20 years. Maybe he wasn't asked a question by his rivals because they didn't want to give him a chance to put his intellectual prowess on display. Or maybe they have finally figured out what the rest of the media did a month or two ago: the only way to beat this man is to silence him. He doesn't have to explain position flip-flops. He doesn't blame the democrats for everything. He blames the same thing all Americans do during non-election years when we're not caught up in our rah, rah Party Politics: Washington in general. Not the people--the politicians.

As the economy takes center stage this election season, Ron Paul is by far the most qualified to speak on economic issues. And the rest of the field knows it. They have to keep him quiet.

So when he asked McCain the question about the President's Working Group on Financial Markets, what he really asked was, "Senator McCain, could you please ramble for a little bit and prove to the American people how woefully ignorant and unprepared you are to lead our nation during this economically trying time?" McCain's answer was, "Yes, absolutely."

To understand who the group to which Congressman Paul was referring is and what they do, read This Link from across the pond.

To understand what an incredible job Senator McCain did in showing his ignorance when answering this question, watch This Video.

I didn't know what Ron Paul was talking about either, but I'm not running for President. Maybe next time the other candidates will actually ask Dr. Paul a question so they can be prepared for what he's going to ask them.

Probably not. That would imply "change" which like "intelligence" has unfortunately become the exclusive domain of the Democrats.

Your Fellow American,

John Armstrong

McCain had that same look the deer had just before my bumper sent it to deer heaven. Deer aren't supposed to know about economics....Somebody who has run for PRESIDENT (twice) and been entrenched in Washington DC for a quarter century ought to. A stammered list of people who will tutor you doesn't cut it....throw this stiff out with Rudy! Mitt, now you're up. Maybe Ron Paul could start with a question to him about how a person that doesn't understand what the CONSTITUTION says about declaring war, who hid during Vietnam, and who has 5 sons none of whom have served in IRAQ or Afghanistan could support war and torture? What would Mitt do, "well uh I'd have uh John McCain, uh General Betrayus, uh, Dwight Eisenhower, GW Bush and uh Capt. Kirk, uh on my uh, uh, advisory staff with a team of lawyers too..."

I completely disagree. Ron Paul may not seem eloquent to a lot of people because he doesn't dumb things down. He doesn't stop to explain what the "gold standard" is (which maybe he should). But in my opinion he's the most eloquent candidate out there.

Also, an MD or a Ph.D. from a reputable university is much more impressive than an MBA. An MBA by definition is a master's degree, while MDs and  Ph.D.'s are doctoral degrees. A doctoral degree takes much more effort and competence to achieve, and says much more about a person's dedication.

Correct. This one of Ron Paul's most bizarre moments. Talk about an obscure question. It made look like the kook he really is. Lyndon Larouchie territory in fact. And that's pretty much how Paul will be remembered in a few weeks after this thing is all said and done; As a Lyndon Larouchie of the Republican Party.

When Ron Paul asked McCain the question, I did not know what the President's Working Group on Financial Markets was until I looked it up after the debate.  However, I knew exactly what he was trying to do at the time. (Trying to show how little McCain really knows and it worked really well!)

A small video camera caught up with him afterwards where they asked Dr. Paul about the question he asked McCain and he stated that it was pretty obvious that McCain had no idea what he was talking about because some of those people that he named were already members of the working group.

The look on McCain's face in response to Ron Paul's question at Thursday's debate was worth the price of admission alone. McCain looked like RP had just asked him to recite in Mandarin Chinese, Einstein's Theory of Relativity. I completely agree with Flavio above on both points. If Ron Paul is not seen as being eloquent, that's because he's being himself. Unlike the other candidates, with the possible exception of Huckabee, Ron Paul is not up there on stage acting. He's being honest, sincere and showing true passion. I don't care what my president looks like or how he parts his hair. Turn the TV off and it doesn't matter. The message still sounds the same and that's all that matters. Oh yeah, anyone can get an MBA. No offense to any MBA holders out there. But there's no comparison to an MD and especially the type of work that typically follows the degree.

Eric Dondero,

You are by far the most stupid and self-serving little man I've seen.  Sir, you can't run for Congress from an internet chat room, but then again, given how badly Dr. Paul will slap you in the race for the House if he's not the nominee that may be your best chance of victory.

Ron Paul's question to McCain was positioned to exactly those who do know what the PPT is and expose to those who manage money just how stupid and ignorant this man is.

Unlike you Dr. Paul has been elected 10 times doing what he's doing now.... courting different demographics at appropriate times.

And this time he was shoring up his cred outside of his populist base.

 Ta,

"Ron Paul may be the only candidate less eloquent that GWB, and Bush's MBA from Harvard is just about as impressive as Paul's MD from Duke.."

Flavio - I think Mr. Armstrong was being facetious here - at least I hope so! Ron Paul is The Most Eloquent speaker we've had since Kennedy - because he speaks the Truth. That is the definition of 'eloquence'. You can't be 'eloquent' while telling lies (Romney).  Ron Paul never uses notes when he speaks as he speaks from his heart and mind - not from some words some 'advisor' wrote for him.

And note, there are 2 trolls who often post on Nolan Chart - Dondero (above) and 'Statist' - both troll the Chart looking for the postive articles on Ron Paul, then post the nastiest - & stupidest - slams just to elicit attention - they both need to get out of their basements and get some fresh air.

Ron Paul for the Long Haul !!

I agree, if Americans can olny see bombs and military might throughout the world as to what made this nation great, and that is how the nation vote, then shame on us for this pride. But I still have a faith that Americans have not taught their children to hate their neighbors as they hate themselves...Oh no, or was it we were taught to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, and this is the reality Americans must remember standing in their polling booth this election, least we continue to be deceived by the twisted MSM and pundits to be, concept of love our neighbors with a bomb.

This MSM silence of Ron Paul not on just the economic issues but on most every issue, and now with all the other candidates from both sides of the isle stealing his postitions and even his very words in some cases claiming them as their own only proves Ron Paul can be the only choice.

So how will America stand by the end of this election? Will it vote for more cluelessness, lies and deception of the 7 liars left? Or will it vote for the traditional values our founding fathers fought and died for...for YOU, that made this nation great?

We all must continue the fight to break the silence that has been lurking around in our minds as tabu for you should you speek against the powers to be... no, this is our duty, the results is Gods.

Thatis why we... Here in Illinois are exposing the liars and spekling the truth! (21 electoral votes)

Eric Dondero,

I'm really curious... is your relentless, baseless slamming of Ron Paul a result of him firing you for gross incompetence or are you on somebody's payroll?

If it is from Ron Paul firing you, you need to seek counseling so that you can move beyond your vengeance.  If it is because you are on somebody's payroll, they should get their money back.  The assertions you make are always baseless and laughable.

So, Mr. Dondero... which corporate elite puppet do you support?

If such an opportunity is ever granted again, I'll bet Romney hopes Dr. Paul won't have a question for him.  Dr. Paul has a way of zeroing in the the weakest point in a baseless position and exposing the fraud for exactly what it is.

Loved the comment.

And may I add that it appears Dr. Paul  was able to answer all of the questions put to him  with out any one giving him the answers like whoever was whispering the answers Mitt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcmFvg24XK4&feature=related.

By the way, the President's Working Group on Financial Markets that Dr. Paul was refering to  goes by the street slang name of  "The Plunge Protection Team".

I have never heard of you.  Sounds like sour grapes and you have an axe to grind since you were fired by Dr. Paul for wanting to take glory for yourself.  You sound like a Benedict Arnold.  Get a life !

I knew that nobody had the intestinal fortitude to ask Ron Paul a question because he would answer any question given with both wisdom and knowledge. I believe also that all the candidates were shaking in their shoes wondering if he would be asking THEM a question. It just so happens that Dr. Paul chose McCain for the obvious reason. To show his incompitence in financial matters and boy oh boy did McCain show himself just that. I wonder who will be on Ron Paul's hit list next, and I am sure that the remaining candidates are also wondering. This is getting to be fun now!

I surely hope that the united states will wake up and elect a man that has brains and understands that this country needs drastic change. The other candidates democrat and republican are all promising what they will do once they are elected. These programs require money. You have to straighten out the monetary system first and that is what Ron Paul wants to do. Only then will these programs be realized. If any other republican canidate runs besides Ron Paul, the democrates will win. Ron Paul is the only republican that can win the election. He is not a flip-flopper and he hasn't changed his agenda to gain votes from the people. He believes in the constitution and you have to respect him for that or your not american. The media can ignore this man all they want, but after the primaries they will know him. God forbid the democrat that will have to debate him. He will win by his knowledge and the experience he has in government. It must be hell when you cant find dirt on a man.

I wondered how long it would take for Dunderoo to find Nolan Chart.

Eric's just having a hissy fit that he cannot cram The Big Rude down our throats. Or any throats, for that matter. The more people see pictures of Rudy in drag, the less the voters like him. The more of the lipless lisp we are exposed to, the less we want to hear it. Florida will be glad when the primary is over just so the droning gadfly will move on. Or drop out, maybe?

Give it up, Eric. Your man is dead in the water. Your advocacy for "bombing everyone before they bomb us" is just not playing well this year. Endless wars went out of fashion after Viet Nam. Americans will put an end to this one, too.

Eric thinks we are all stupid. I knew what the Working Group was and that it is called the PPT by most laymen. There is nothing odd about the question. What is odd is that the government has a mechanism in place to manipulate the markets in the first place.

Maybe Rudy is losing because he chose a poor staff....if Eric Dunderoo is an example of Rudy's staffing choices just imagine what clowns he would appoint as his Cabinet? I shudder to think of it. I wonder if Eric gets paid by the hour to write endless crap at blogs?? Or maybe he endlessly searches Google for his own name?

Maybe Rudy should bite the bullet and run as a Democrat next time. The big "R" by his name means nothing. He IS a Democrat in drag!

unfortunately we're doomed to get another loser in the white house. start printing up your "impeach Hillary" and  "impeach McCain" bumper stickers. The powers that be will not allow Dr. Paul to get elected. They cannot allow that to happen. Face it folks, either we take back our country by force, or we're f#ck'd.
