While Mayor Bloomberg's entrance into the race isn't yet official, it becomes more and more apparent that he will enter the Presidential race as an independent. This comes after months of speculation and rumor into the Mayors intentions. Bloomberg is the Mayor of New York City and a Multi-Billionaire, who can easily funnel millions, if not billions, into a presidential bid
. In fact, he has said he would be willing to spend more than a Billion Dollars if he decided to run. He is reported to have already spent a lot of money getting prepared for an entrance into the race. This, along with his changing rhetoric, seems to indicate that this years presidential election is about to become chaotic.
But how does this help Congressman Paul(R/Tx) into the White House? Because it could become a 4-way race to win the White House.
I know a lot of Ron Paul supporters are ready to hang me from the highest tree, but lets have a reality check and put this into perspective. I am sure that all of us "Paultards" can agree on what we want as a final outcome, so it is time to look at some alternative plans for the future.
First, we must be able to see the divisions within each of the 2 major parties. No matter which candidate wins, there will be a HUGE block of voters who will be unhappy with their parties choice (The voting of the lesser of two evils will come back into play) and those voters will be open to a 3rd party candidate.
If Clinton wins the Democratic Nomination, there will be a huge exodus of Independent voters from the Democrats who supported Obama. These are typically young voters, the same ones that are attracted to Dr. Paul on the Republican side.
While Mayor Bloomberg would capture a sizable portion of these Democratic-leaning Independent voters, He wouldn't be able to attract the independents from the Republican side. His taxation policies wouldn't be very attractive even to the most social conservative. He might be able to steal some of Hillary's votes too.
On the Republican side you have 3 main contenders, McCain, Romney and Huckabee. The winner of the Republican Nomination won't have a very easy time capturing the other two candidate's supporters are they are not in line with the other candidates positions.
It's like the start of a joke "A Morman, a Baptist Preacher and a War-monger were running for president....."
This would leave the with only one other choice, the best one of course, Congressman Ron Paul.
Dr. Paul appeals to Mormons, evangelicals, non-interventionests, etc. He would be able to swipe a large portion of these voters also.
Dr. Paul should NOT change his plans at this time, the race for the Republican Nomination isn't over yet and he can still make huge strides in name recognition and have a stage on the national debate platform. This will be critical when, and if, he will decide to run as an independent.
There will not be a choice, I am afraid, if he doesn't have at least one State, in January, that he either wins or places a very close second. If there are only 4th and 5th place finishes in the primaries before Super Tuesday, Dr. Paul will have a struggle in those 20 States to finish above 15%.
That will be irrelevant if Mayor Bloomberg enters the race as an independent. Much like Ross Perot did to the Republicans in 1992, Bloomberg will do to the Democrats in 2008 .Now picture Presidential Election as a 4-way race, it would be a real challenge to the 2-party system, if not a complete disaster.
How would we afford it? Dr. Paul could also apply for federal matching funds. These are funds that are "given" by citizens on their federal tax funds and SHOULD be used by Dr. Paul. This would give him an enormous war chest to begin an independent campaign for President. Of course, we could keep right on giving as well.
I realize we have just started the primaries and that we could win next week. However, like in chess, if your opening gambit fails, you have to start planning your endgame early. Do not be pig-headed and NOT plan ahead just because you want your opening plan to work.
No matter the results of the primaries through Super Tuesday, where there is a will, there is a way.
I will not quit until I see Dr. Paul elected as President

I am afraid Dr. Ron Paul would never accept those matching funds fo his campaign. He is so jealous about the taxpayer money and likes to lead by example.
I also believe Ron Paul will not leave the campaign when it gets tougher (est). He is a highly principled man, driven by conviction, and not by convenience. Not a good trait in the political arena.

i agree w/ mariana that dr paul would never accept those funds. he may not play by other people's rules, but he does play by his own.
other than that, i agree w/ you big louie. his best chance in my opinion would be if clinton wins the dem. nomination, huckabee (or even the others) win the rep. nom. and bloomberg enters. the only question i have in that situation though, is whether he should run as an indy or take the libertarian nomination which many libertarian party leaders have been suggesting both privately and publicly. would not accepting it cause some libertarians not to vote, or would accepting it hurt his cause w/ the portion of dems who are brainwashed to see libertarians as just as distasteful as the various republican factions. my guess would be accepting it as it would add to his coffers from the hard core libertarians, given that he has already been labled (and fairly correctly if yo agree w/ labels) as a libertarian leaning candidate.

I would agree with you about this being a good thing for Dr. Paul except for one thing, the voting system is rigged. I;m sure you 'll agree that with the use of caging lists and Diebold machines means that no matter who you vote for, it won't matter.

Do you honestly think Obama cares if Hillary wins? Or McCain cares if Mitt wins? Or Huckabee, when they are ALL part of CFR and New World order? Come on! Get a clue!
